Footprints

FOOTPRINTS IN
THE SAND
One night I had a wondrous dream
I dreamed I was walking along the beach
with the Goddess. And on the shore
were Her footprints -- nothing more.

Then suddenly prints I did see,
I asked the Goddess, "What kind are these?
These aren't my knees, these aren't my hands,
these aren't my footprints in the sand!"

"My ," She said in somber tones,
"For miles I carried you alone.
I challenged you to walk in faith,
but you refused and made me wait."

"You would not learn, you would not grow,
The walk of faith, you would not know,
So I got tired, I got fed up,
And there I dropped you on your butt."

"Because in life, there comes a time
When one must fight, and one must climb,
When one must rise and take a stand,
Or leave their butt prints in the sand."

A pagan friend posted this to his or her F.B. wall a while ago, and I love it. Hope nobody finds offense. For some reason the imagery keeps coming to mind tonight.

As a pagan, I love this. I know that it is a takeoff of the Christian poem called Footprints, but it carries the same inspiration and truth to pagans as well in the form of the Goddess.

However, as much as I know I should ignore this I cannot. A previous comment says and I quote, "I think the poem represents the idea that a believer, in the Goddess, should not be passive because the Goddess represents the power of women. If you don't strive, you are not expressing the power of women. A power that each woman has

The comment is correct in that a believer in the Goddess should always strive to learn and grow and never be passive in their faith. Otherwise the Goddess will teach us valuable lessons. However the Goddess does not represent the power of just women. The Goddess represents the power that is found in each of us. She is the Creatress, the Mother of all races and gender. If you do not strive, you do not express the power that the Goddess has given to all of nature.

I apologize for the length of my comment but I did wish to clear up any confusion on what the Goddess really represents, which is all of life.

That's a good point. Actually, now that you explained it... I don't actually see a difference between both sets of words. The power of women = Life. As you said "Creatress, Mother." I have read those same words often enough across many cultures and traditions. Though thanks for explaining more because your words open it to a larger experience. I'm afraid I wasn't viewing foreverhard2's words in the totality that he might have meant. Which is odd, as I tend to over think and expand on things in my own head lol. But I was tired.

I just love the image of "I'm done arguing with you!" *dump*

My view of God is very... Anthropomorphic, overall. Many religious friends have scolded me for it lol. I just constantly see him sitting back, watching me, sighing deeply while shaking his head (palm on forehead) "DSK, DSK, DSK... what are you doing?!" That, and when mentally begging Him to point me where I should go "You stubborn Taurus woman!! What do you think I've been doing? You never listen" haha. Oh: and He laughs at me a lot. A LOT.

A totally different topic but... isn't it funny how people that believe God is all-powerful, all-encompassing, so far beyond the human that we can't even imagine. YET... if you say "reincarnation" they freak out? Seriously? I'm not going to tell God he can't do that if he wants to haha.

Guess I'm answering everybody now Plus I'm waiting for rice to cook. Yeah: at 5:30 in the morning.

Well... "Sometimes we walk side by side. Sometimes I carry you. Sometimes... I drop you on your whiny ass" haha.I think it works across all traditions

Sadly I never really "thought" about it too much any of the times I read it (until now, due to commentary). I just (lovingly) laughed at the image of it.

hiddenmythology: no need to apologize for the length of your comments. I enjoy reading the opinions of my readers. Well... within reason. I did throw a fit and kick one person out a year ago for dissing on my dreams and making me cry. Small exceptions to every rule.
