The Term Gay beore and after the 70's.
The Term Gay beore and after the 70's. The Term Gay before and after the 70's. Up till the 70's the term gay held a different meaning than it does to today. I some of the older movies made prior to the 70's the term gay was used in reference to having a gay old time. Or it's going to be a gay party, or I'm feeling gay. Now a days the term is used in reference to male homosexuals. So my question is to the older and younger generations today. When you hear the word gay being used, what does it cause you to think of? The older term before the 70's, or the newer term after the 70's? |

The new term and the newer term is so old it's now politically incorrect to use almost although I think LGBT mentions gay

knew the gay was for happy or good times, the gay nineties referring to the 1890s

Varies with context. Can be either. Falalalala-lalalala I suppose there's been a point when prior use is so archaic, younguns will use the new meaning as their default.

Being older, I continue to first think of "happy" when I hear the word "gay" I remember when the word was first used to describe homosexual men......before, they were referred to as homos, queers and faggots, and a few other words, so gay is a much better word. However, some gay men still proudly use the older terms.
