Opinions
One of my favorite sayings is that "Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. And everyone thinks theirs doesn't stink." I was told an opinion today that rather disturbed me. I was chatting with a new contact and stated that I enjoy hanging with my male friends more than my female friends at times as I grew up with 3 brothers and feel comfortable around men just hanging out and conversing, watching a movie, grabbing lunch, or going for a hike. Whatever. He stated:
"Well, that's nice to believe that you have male friends.Men aren't friends with women unless they are a fag. Men want to sleep with their "friends" if they are female. But girls just don't understand that. I'm sure you disagree, but thats a fact."

Isn't that just precious? It's a bit funny and sad to think that the lines of black and white exist totally with no grey area at all in this mans mind. Assumptions, well we all know that saying don't we?
He is of course entitled to his opinion, but how sad to judge a person you don't even know! And it's ok, because he never will.

 Iv'e never heard such crap i have loads of friends, more women than men, put it this way i work with 9 people 6 ladies and 3 men all are my friends, we go out for drinks and socialise.Never had sex with any of them. By the way whoever told you this has contradicted themselves by saying men arn't friends with women unless they are a fag/then says men want to sleep with their friends but if he's a fag he aint going to sleep with a woman any way.

 I think I understand stand where this guy was going with it. While it is possible to have female friends it's just not the same as guy friends, and a guy will at least think about having sex with them. I have a few female friends, never had sex with them, never will, but I have thought about it. If I was given the chance I wouldn't take it because of what it would potentially do to the friendship but I have to admit it would be damn hard. I've thought about sleeping with every woman I ever met, even if it's just to go "ick". It's just human nature. Caveman part of the brain kicks in real fast and it can be difficult sometimes to not let it take over. You also have the fact that many guys aren't trying to be friends with women but somehow end up in the friend zone. So they stay there biding their time until they can figure out a way to get out of the friend zone and into your pants. It's definitely not a fact, but there is a small bit of truth to it. It doesn't apply always, but generally.

Oh, I understand exactly where this man was coming from. He's extremely dominating, and even went so far as to state that if we were to date I'd have to grow my hair out and wear high heels and mini-skirts. Dominate moi? Only for fun, and not always. I get that it is what most men are thinking alot of the times and I'm ok with it. Really. But there are pure friendships that begin and stay just that on purpose.
