A DOMESTIC GODDESS AND A DOMESTIQUE

Domestic goddess, celebrity chef and of a former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Nigella Lawson, is now being divorced by her ‘playful’ art collector-of-a husband, Charles Saatchi, after being recently assaulted by him!

The Tour de France enters its second week. Team Sky’s main lead cyclist, Chris Froome, is still ahead thanks to his domestiques on Saturday’s stage and no thanks to his domestiques on Sunday’s stage.

Domestiques are the riders in each team who ride for the benefit of the team and its leader and who rarely ride ever for themselves. Domestiques ride in front of their teams’ leader so he can conserve energy; they will ride to shield the wind from their team’s leader; they will fetch and carry water and food for the team; they will wait if their team’s leader has a crash or puncture to lead the lead cyclist back to the peloton; and they will give their bikes to their team’s leader if need be. The winner of the Tour de France, who claims the yellow jersey, always relies on his teams’ domestiques for the victory, which is why it is convention he shares the winner’s prize monies with the team.

In cycling, the word ‘domestique’ was first used as an insult to describe the cyclist, Maurice Brocco, in 1911. He started six Tours de France but never finished any of them. In 1911, the then Tour organiser said of Brocco: "He is unworthy. He is no more than a domestique." The role of the domestique was thus born but the term is now no longer used as an insult; instead it is a compliment. One former domestique, Charly Wegelius, has just written a book, Domestique. Wegelius never won a race, and, as he wrote, he was “the hired help”. He made a lot of money out of not winning!

How domesticated are you?
How good (or bad) are you in a team?
Are you a team-player?

As David Brent (Ricky Gervais) said in The Office, “There may be no 'I' in team, but there's a 'ME' if you look hard enough.”

I used to play many team sports. I was never kicked of any team for not being good enough. I am on a chess team now.
I feel I am "good" for a team!!

How domesticated are you? Extremely...
How good (or bad) are you in a team? I work well in the right team.
Are you a team-player? I am submissive by nature so I make a good team player.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I'm not very domesticated at all (in fact, I kind of hate domestic work, like housework).

I am a good team player - but have only really played in "teams" at work, and in card games etc. - not in sports.

Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

***How domesticated are you?
Absolutely f*cking USELESS !!!!!!!

***How good (or bad) are you in a team?/Are you a team-player?
I am not really a very good team player at all.
I work best either alone, or managing a team ... even note the use of 'managing', as opposed to 'leading'.

I was in the school chess team, not because I was any good but because there were not enough chess players for a team.

I'm not that domesticated; I'm now planning to pay someone to do my cleaning and ironing!

I don't like managing teams at work as people always knock on my door with their problems!
