Getting to be rich I do not consider myself rich, but I am better off than many. I was not brilliant, but I made some good decisions, and not too many awful ones. My distilled ways to get rich: 1. Spend less than you earn. 2. Get a high paid skill. 3. Marry someone who has a high paid skill. 4. Don't get divorced. 5. Put money into retirement tax deferred accounts. 6. Always max out 401(k) to get max employer match. 7. Buy house in desirable area. 8. Keep working as long as possible. 9. Don't sell house, wait for death to get up basis on death of spouse... 10. Don't have too many to avoid expensive college tuition expenses. 11. Enjoy life, but don't overdo it. 12. Exercise and limit weight gain to avoid medical expense. 13. Don't lend money, invest in penny stocks, daytrade, guarantee other's debts, etc. 14. Avoid expensive cars, jewelry, status symbols... 15, Avoid timeshares, summer vacation houses, too much expensive travel... 16. Don't waste money at casinos. Instead buy casino stocks... 17. Take social security at age 70. 18. Live to be 100... 19. Invest mostly in US growth stocks... |
