Protest and risk Covid 19
Protest and risk Covid 19 Sadly the cost of protesting may be Covid 19 infection. Hard keep distance in a protest. Getting arrested would be bad as detention centers are hotbeds of infection. Wear a mask and stay feet apart... if possible. In what he called a back-of-the-envelope estim Trevor Bedford, an expert the virus at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, wrote on Twitter that each day of protests could result in about 3,000 new cases and 50 500 deaths. Given the racial disparities seen during the pandemic, he noted, that surge would disproportionately affect black people. “Societal benefit of continued protests must be weighed against substantial potential impacts health,” he wrote. |

Protesting is for the young and healthy. Getting the virus is a life and death action.

The experience in the UK which is particularly alarming is that 1 in 4 black people who become infected die. That is very distressing. As you say though, what is encouraging about the UK protests is that the vast majority of protesters are youngsters, under 30yo. I went to attend a protest in Edinburgh here but saw that people weren't keeping their distance, so I didn't stay for it. It will be a terrible price to pay if Mr Bedford's predictions come to pass.

Portland had a major lie-in-the -street protest and that was only one. I stayed away from all of them- too many who refused to mask and distance. One ting I did notice: when Floyd's daughter, mother, fellow family was on the nationals news NOT ONE OF THEM had on a mask nor were they 6 feet apart. Come on people use your head even in your grief And I see clusters of non-caucasian fokd in my city with no masks and you know sure as hell they do not all live in the same abode (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

Sad, but as usual the careful will live to bury the bold and reckless.
