What are you hiding?  Yesterday, I blogged about how to engage ladies in the online dating world, and it got me to thinking about my early adventures in this online dating world. I joined another adult sex site prior to joining AdultFriendFinder. They had all the regular nuisances, endless e-mail’s encouraging you to become a paid member, e-mails from members you couldn’t read until you become and member; you know the drill. When I finally pony up some money, what I get is a lot of chat requests from very hot looking mid to late 20 something year olds. Now the attention is great for the ego, and I am cool with people that age, but there are all from LA, or Chicago, or Florida, and most of them are from the UK. WTF, I live in Canada. So I am doing my thing, responding to ice breakers, sending out ice breakers, and no results. I finally get around to writing a description of myself and what I am looking for, and low and behold, I get an e-mail response to an ice breaker from a lady, closer to my age, who actually lives near me. She says she liked that I had something intelligent to say in my profile. We begin messaging each other, back and forth one evening, and things are moving along swimmingly. The next evening I log in excited to continue chatting with this lady, and there is a message from her waiting for me. She has decided that she no longer wants to chat with me because I must be hiding something; I only show the lower half of my face in the profile pic (I use the same pic here on AdultFriendFinder). Again I am thinking, WTF. Her profile picture is of her sitting on a set of stairs, but the picture is shot from about 100 miles away. I wouldn’t know this woman if she walked up to me and punched me in the face. Now, she had not requested a face photo of me, and I had not requested one of her. I did try to send her a full face pic, in my response to her message, but she had already blocked me. It left me scratching my head, thinking, is this what I can expect to have to deal with; overly paranoid ladies? I think shortly after that I stumble across AdultFriendFinder and here I am. I can’t be the only one that has had crazy shit like this happen to them. Has anyone had brushes with, ahem… crazy people. But here is the thing; when I a searched on being successful in the online dating world, one piece of advice I came across was “be honest and forthcoming and expect the same”. When I read it, I thought “duh”… I didn’t just fall of the turnip truck, I get that there are individuals who go through their whole lives, without an ounce of sincerity, and in the online world they can continue the pretense in relative anonymity. It’s the same people who in the real world tell you they are an astronaut, they drive a Porsche, and they are sterile back in the day. But, if you’re going in, expecting that everyone on here is really a lying scumbag, who is using someone else’s pictures, lying about their height, age, etc., what’s the point of being on this site? I am not professing that a healthy dose of skepticism is not warranted, but flat out paranoia? Find pleasure in giving pleasure |

khu, them sites are there to promote pro-chat sessions period. There are more than one related sites that "adopt" your profile and start sending you unsolicited email. The advantage of seeing the other sites is you can do name searches and discover the females that you have some interest in (and paid the $$ to meet) are not real or even in your local. Read the terms of the "paid for" site carefully as to how to terminate and to shut off automatically billing. Then keep a copy of the confirmation emails, cuz they will try to bill you a renewal again in hopes that you don't notice. Them Jersey folks across the pond are insidious. my general point of view is until you've proven otherwise by talking to me and or meeting me in person you are just a fake profile. Call it paranoia, I call healthy skepticism,..but my minor in optimism means I will play along until it becomes completely obvious that you're just wasting my time.
