once was an easy game

once was an easy game
These cluttered lives of love
broken and re-mended
shattered and re-joined
fractured and glued
beaten bruised and scarred
these hearts still beat on
against all of life's experience
against storm and wind gale
always bearing further passage
bearing greater hope
than evidence and years might provide
that love can live
trust earned not be spurned
such a thin canvas of life
onto which we paint love
so easy to tear
to poke holes in
the image of love
we hold dear and create
in those we know
in those we would know
in those passed we knew
when love was less a trial
and once was an easy game.

secondly, I am probably a serial abuser of grammar myself, willingly and unwillingly....

thirdly, I sometimes appreciate poetry and sometimes, feeling guilty, don't. Poetry I, personally, think can't always reach everyone, or should....and besides so often poetry is taught as a boring component, potentially embarrassing, to high school age students...so not surprising poetry is often as well liked or appreciated, as some form of disfiguring viral disease....

 I read this when it posted..... and wished I'd commented then. Just lovely, the feelings this arouses. I've never considered myself having an appreciation for poetry (probably something to do with it violating many MANY rules of grammar ) but I'm rethinking that now. Thanks!

 does it feel any different, or do we now drag poor love across the corrugations of the scars of past love which have become misdeeds?
