Do You Want To EFFECTIVELY Complain About The Standard Members Losing Their Email Privileges????

As many of us come to expect, the most excellent and well venerated [blog wordsmith6900] has weighed in on the current hoorah about the restriction of messaging privileges on the site, which weighs as usual most heavily on the poor but affects us all adversely. His advice is sound and is the result of years of service blogging and researching the intricate history and convoluted workings of this site. He has a voluminous capacity for memory storage and can pull it all up at need. It is the best post I've read on the topic and I think offers the most sound approach. Read his post [post 3707442]-Do You Want To EFFECTIVELY Complain About The Standard Members Losing Their Email Privileges???? and leave him a comment, and then act!

And I'll also take the time and space (Please, no discussion here about quantum physics, string theory or the nature of reality. Save that for another post.) to say that this blogger [blog wordsmith6900] never fails to impress me with the clarity of his thinking or his command of the facts. He is in my opinion the go-to guy for all matters site related. If we had an Elrond, he would be portrayed by [blog wordsmith6900].

Take a couple of minutes and give him your attention. He has important words of wisdom to impart!

I do too, my friend. I've been mulling it over in my mind- there's quite a lot of room in there for mulling, for which you need space- and was kind of at a loss for the best possible tactic. I like the idea of boycotts in principle, and they do work in practice, too. But in the middle of the mulling process, [blog wordsmith6900]'s post popped up. I liked it. Gold members really should get behind this.

I like this site. We all have bitches about it, me included, but it provides the most pleasant social networking, in the blogs, that I have found. There's considerable freedom of speech here even with the restrictions already in place. But restricting access to one another will drive people away. You might as well try to get laid on AssPlace.

I respect [blog wordsmith6900], and that's from experience.

that must be new... first several years on here I paid for my membership, they had a silver back than along with gold, than I thought I was tired of paying for the glitches so I went standard I couldn't do a lot of things I got some privileges by popularity when a certain amount of people viewed your profile..than a sweet gentleman bought me a membership so I could see all his pictures and videos than the ice breaker came out. that comes with a price having a picture and it generates an email you compose to new people..if they were allowed to email all the time that is something new and if they did do away with it, it is probably to prevent BOTS and phoney profiles

Oh bullshit! The only bots and phony profiles are those created by AdultFriendFinder themselves, to send out a bunch of phony flirts and messages enticing foolish men to pay for a membership that turns out to be worthless. This new policy won't stop that. It will only cause the people who might have been considering a paid membership (like me) to realize the site is run by morons who only want your money, and quit.

If the protest doesn't succeed in reversing the policy change, folks might just start voting with their feet.

That's the corporate world, V. I like the site, but in fairness I'm here for the blogs and not for hookups so my needs are a bit unusual. However, when you advertise the place as a dating/sex site and communication is key to doing that, and you then curtail that communication for paid members, it's a con. It may be good old fashioned American marketing, but there's plenty that's wrong with good old fashioned American marketing.

Your link to wordsmith6900 *does* work for me.
I understand he is very well informed on this site but in all honesty, I really don't understand why this is going to have such a terrible impact as far as I'm concerned. I can't disagree with AdultFriendFinder wanting to make money, as far as I know, this is not a charity or the Boys Scouts of America. I suppose AdultFriendFinder could have had more tact and diplomacy towards standard members. I can only think of another blogger -Keith and his many alter egos- that I remember and am concerned about interacting with. Otherwise, I can't tell you how annoying it is sometimes to be contacted by people completely out of your listed preferences, because all they can see if a very small part of your profile, if that (I believe just a pic and the quote under?). Then even if by chance said standard members are actually somewhat close to what you're looking for, you have to exchange pics via Messages when you already wrote a profile precisely so that others could know what you're about and what you're looking for.

I understand the concerns about security breaches and credit cards stored on any website. But, as callous as this might sound, am just not interested in meeting possible bed partners who are truly $20-$30 short that they can't afford a membership.

Yep. Sounds callous but a lot of things that are common sense in self-preservation sound callous in relationships. If I don't want to "host" nor go to someone's place right away, and a hotel is needed, why would I not seriously reconsider meeting anyone who does not want to or can't pay $30/month for a subscription?

I hear many bloggers on here aren't interested at all in meeting in person, but let's not forget this is a hook up site after all (or even one to find any level of committed relationship?

If non-paying members *really* want to have a presence and interact, there are the blogs, still. All the indignation here seems to come from people quite involved on the site, with an established presence and an obvious interest in interacting. But those who will be directly affected, the non-paying members, are they as interested/committed to interacting? I wonder. I do understand the concerns over method payments and breaches in security. All I'm saying is the blogging option is still free, can be a good platform to present yourself and keep interacting! Now, if even that effort is too much to ask, then why all the commotion? I think it's a legitimate question.

Good points all. But what I'm thinking of are folks who will take a look, and hang around a while, but hesitate to pay for a membership for no good reason. IF they get a contact from, or discover someone who is clearly interesting, they may then buy a gold card. I know that sounds cheap, but cheap ain't all bad. It's someone who won't commit unless he or she sees something they might want to commit to. If you can't see a damn thing, you're gonna walk away, not join. The site has to offer them SOMETHING.

Yes, this is a business and not the Boy Scouts, but as a non-business man and thinking as a consumer, I want some kind of introductory offer, some kind of draw to get me to stay. It isn't always about can't pay, don't have the money. They're consumers. Potential customers.

I believe you're correct that the members here who really do interact are a minority. I get the distinct impression that if it weren't for dipshits who think the site, and the women here, owe them some tail just for signing up, there'd be a LOT less members. No body ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. (Except maybe this place.) Since men are over-represented here, it follows that there will be a fair number of dipshits in our sample.

We all have a stake in this. We (My wife and aren't here for hooking up, but if the customers go away so do the blogs. I sincerely think that if they give standard members a FEW perks, they'll keep the new members coming.

Folks doing reconnaissance, not decided yet on paying, happen to already be given very simple FREE tools such as a profile builder, option to upload many pictures, even write a little blog. And how many even bother? Do you know how many barely describe themselves physically or fill their profile with "blah blah will complete later not sure what I'm looking for etc..." I've had men write me soooo many times, the same men, with always the same lame approach, and don't think many even bothered to try and find out a little about me through my blog. Do I want to continually be approached by men I've already told I wasn't interested? It's just a tedious process to introduce each other every time with a non-paying member, ask all those questions about likes, marital status, sexual preferences, appearance, exchange pics again and again and again, that I simply don't bother. Standard members can barely see profiles as it is and still contact you, aiming in the dark! Do I really want that?

Standard members who are actually interested in knowing more about others, to hook up or just be pen pals are not affected, are they, because they're smart enough to dig a little deeper and look at people's blogs.

Now, if paying members are concerned about non-paying members possibly losing interest because they aren't given more by AdultFriendFinder to chew on, I believe there still is the option of becoming a fan of a non-paying member, thus giving them a sign there is interest for them and that it might be worth a shot to join and get the advantages of messaging. For that, all AdultFriendFinder should encourage new non-paying members to fill their profiles with as much detail as necessary to attract anyone (duh), upload pics etc...prospective non-paying members should put themselves out there more, to garner interest. Then, a bidding system/purchase of points by other non-paying or paying members to contact said prospective non-paying members could be the needed motivation to purchase? Yes, the reality is someone's gotta pay. If there is such a sense of solidarity here, then maybe those interested in communicating (on any level) with non-paying members should put their points or money where their mouth is. Of course, that can only happen if ALL members put in the effort of writing a decent profile and uploaded pics. Which brings us back to the beginning of my post here.

I wonder why AdultFriendFinder simply does not enforce a minimum prerequisite for answering such SIMPLE things as your marital status/height/weight?! when filling a profile and becoming a member. I *really* think that would make this situation move forward. Think about people who like it here already but don't like the types of useless sterile messages that often come from non-paying members. Yes am advocating for quality over quantity even if this does not at first seem sound. But here we are and I guess it's proof that all these lurkers/undecided non-paying members have simply come to form a "bubble" and it's now naturally bursting. Maybe this system was convenient for a few reasons such as keeping in touch with as many members as possible as without "discrimination", however, I hear AdultFriendFinder has not been very profitable for a while and I really don't see how a business can work by giving everything for free. Obviously, the courtesy was taken for granted by many and did has NOT worked as an incentive. But what do I know, am actually very new on here.

I also think that enforcing profiles to be filled properly in order to be given free membership would skim the lurkers who would never really commit or engage constructively anyways. Like you said, those dipshits who expect to get laid because they payed their dues would at least understand no one owes them anything and that a minimal effort on their part is also required. That, along with getting enough bids/fans on your account that would then give you some access to messaging or decide you on becoming a paying member might be the way to go.

Oh and I forgot: remember that silly "Ambassador" program? AdultFriendFinder's points and bling were definitely not tempting to me. Now, undecided members with well-filled complete profiles and pics (mandatory prerequisites to even open an account) now *that* might spark my interest and who knows, make me decide to become an Ambassador

"If there is such a sense of solidarity here, then maybe those interested in communicating (on any level) with non-paying members should put their points or money where their mouth is."
Who told you about my points? That was supposed to be a secret!

You have a lot of quibbles with the current system, and with the lax attitude of many members. I agree with all of the points you've made. All of the people I personally interact with on the site are already bloggers, and it's their messaging privileges I'm supporting. They took the time and made the effort to do all the things you suggested, and they did it under the former messaging policy. Many of them say they will now leave.

Naw. I do once in a while send a welcome message, but I'm not doing it at their behest, or for points, or a gold star next to my name. That's the site's job. I'll welcome who I damn well please. And under the new messaging rules, you can send a "welcome", but they can't read it.

Then I'm sorry but it seems unreasonable to me that the people you've personally been positively interacting with now decide to leave...when they STILL have the option to contact you via blogs, and even privately! Quite the rigid stance there!

Ha, of course not for a gold star. But so that they may be interested in becoming paying members and getting in touch with me at first as the person who first reached out as "Ambassador" and of course with any other member, or so that they can continue receiving my messages, any which way works.

I wouldn't do "the site's job" if it came from a genuine interest in getting to know someone.

And I still think it's perfectly reasonable for them to have limited messaging privileges. I'm not the only member they'd like to interact with, and they've been good citizens. We'll have to agree to disagree.
And you needn't be sorry. You presented your point of view politely and with intelligence. It's been fun.

The "Malwart Greeter" aspect of the Ambassador Task put me off. If I see a profile that's funny or especially articulate, now and then I'll send a message and say so. But when it comes to greeting anyone who has enough physical mass to open the automatic doors, I'm more the "You're at Malwart. Hurry up, get your cheap plastic shit and get out" type.

It's strange- and sometimes really funny- what gets banned by the keyword bots. I made a comment about seeing a hawk hunt and catch one day and it was banned for violence. There was a rash of bans a few months ago for commenting using too many emojis- the site's own emojis! I wrote a positive review of "Twelve Years a Slave" and THAT post was denied.

Yeah- this IS a business so we all get, or should get, that it's about the money. But as consumers, it's often about the money too. If I visit a site and try to make up my mind if it's worth the price, I want to see more than marketing gimmicks and advertising. Sometimes you just have to spend your nickel and take your chances, but you gotta be careful doing even that. We've all heard members' complaints about how this site uses AutoRenew!

What an injustice the poor and undersexed all affected by the recent changes. I wish this was much more like inyourfaceplace. I don't pay anything over there and that zuckerberg is one filthy rich guy. What are they doing right that this place cannot seem to do?

Hey let's all start our own place!! Or maybe we should just take all our friends elsewhere.
I was hoping somebody would pick up on my populist remark!
I think I'd try a sex site- with a blogging platform- set up like AssPlace too. They deliver us to the advertisers and make their money that way. There could be a premium version that's paid for and offered increased benefits and fewer or no ads. I don't want to manage anything though. It's more fun to sit in the back row and heckle.

I have no idea how that works. I didn't know that a sender could give points to an addressee to enable a response. I only knew that once I messaged a standard, we could then correspond.

Lala, I think Vanessa could just be right. I didn't think about it that way at first, but a couple of women bloggers are already reporting an uptick in the quality of messages they're receiving. If that trend becomes a reality, you could see the site transition from the sleazy back room in a biker pool room to an exclusive Caribbean hedonist resort. I suppose they'll be throwing me out if that happens.

It was unless that just changed you could email roses and I believe it was 100 points to send an email.. I know when the site VIP me for a minute I sent lots of roses with emails to standard friends so they can use it to email who they wanted to maybe that changed too

This whole uproar has been a learning experience for me. I've generally only messaged other bloggers, and I've had a gold card for most of the time I've been on here, which I DO appreciate. But I'm mainly concerned with the blogs. Like any guy on the site, I love looking at the profiles of all the women here. You can't swing a dead cat in this place without smacking a beautiful woman. (That's NOT how I meet women as a rule- it's just an old country folk expression, ya know.) But now that I think about it, the dead cat approach might be something of an improvement for some of the members.

A woman who blows you off is making a mistake.
Far from needing to apologize for your comment, this is one of the most thoughtful comments I've read. I have spoken to my wife of this before- how happy I am that we have one another and don't have to do what nearly every one of you are doing right now- trying to make some kind of connection with other human beings any way you can, and doing it while trying to navigate the obstacles put in your way by profit oriented corporations. She and I got very lucky. We did have the good sense to recognize it when we tripped over each other.

I did have standard members in mind when I wrote this post, but I was hoping to influence gold members that they were losing something too with the messaging restrictions. I have argued that not being willing to pay for a membership doesn't mean that said member is in poverty or that he's cheap. It may well simply mean that he's a smart consumer. Yes, it can mean a lot of other negative things too, but guys deserve the benefit of the doubt until they demonstrate they don't deserve it.

I think the jury is still out on whether this will help to weed out the creeps or not. I'm willing to be convinced, but I'm still skeptical. There are gold members here who have zero social skills and no tact, and others who are just here to irritate other members. Dipshittedness is not limited to standard members by any means.

Thank you for making this comment, and please return. The blogs are a forum, moderated by the bloggers themselves. You'll be welcome here. You are someone I'd definitely like to know better.

I'm pleased to meet you, Ben. I'm Bill.

I like the idea of marriage. I never much cared for dating- I just found a woman I who didn't like me and gave her a house- three times. It takes two people to make a marriage or any relationship work, but only one to fuck it up. It gets discouraging for people to go through serial monogamy and fail repeatedly. Kind of makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with: A- You, or B- Them. Possibly C- Both. A site like this is bound to be loaded with people who either feel they have failed or that the opposite sex has failed them. Throw into the mix the players who just want to fuck something, any old thing, and it's a wonder there isn't more strife.

The blogs are more or less what we make of them. There's remarkable freedom of speech here. But we do tend to lose sight of what the site's end game is- money. This ain't a charity. BUT! That doesn't rule out the use of enlightened self interest on the part of management. The new members need more than just a carrot to sniff. You gotta give 'em a bite of something now and then.

As to cost, no matter what numbers they purport to be theirs, no one will believe them. There's a track record to be taken into account, and this site's track record ain't that great. Far from being retired to stud, they'd be headed for the glue factory.
