Thoughts On Bloggers Leaving

It seems like a lot of good bloggers are leaving or thinking of leaving or have left. As of this AM I read about another blogger who is thinking of leaving and some who replied thinking the same and another one, Recal, who seems to be gone already. As I think about it others come to mind who seem to have faded away.

I mentioned that I am going to write about this situation and have a bunch of thoughts in my head, but not on “paper”, or in a manner (organized) that I feel good about presenting them in. So this post ain’t that post. This is me asking for input from y’all on why you may be considering leaving and what you might stay for.

I imagine some of the reasons are personal, some are because of situation(s) on the blogs themselves, some are because of your wants or expectations of the site(s) itself, and some are other things. The ones I have seen and am experiencing involve, in part, are a lesser number of interesting (to me) posts or as I see it diversity. Diversity, and how it effects and has affected the blogs, is a subject I plan on writing about. Another term that comes to mind and is related to diversity is acceptance, or another way of putting it is judgment.

FWIW, one thing I’m not talking about is the site’s glitches, mostly because we really don’t have any control over them. Yes, they can be a pain, but there are work arounds. That is the subject for another time IMO. What we do have control over is ourselves and how we do what we do on the blogs.

Anyways, I think if the blogs are to remain interesting (not only to me but to others) and be a pleasant (or at least not unpleasant) place to interact, and to survive as a viable connection to other people – this probably needs to be discussed.

So speak up y’all.

Catching up on reading blogs and saw this one. Checking in regularly on A F F and blogging here isn't a life sentence. For some of us it sometimes feels like it. I for one am approaching year 12. As a once active blogger, chatter and meeter of men and frequent meet and greet attendee, I've been officially bored for quite a while. Been there, done it, written and read it all too many times that it's no longer stimulating physically or intellectually. Am I making a big pronouncement I am leaving? Of course not. I will linger, occasionally check in and even write a few things and maybe meet more men. No reason to cut the cord completely...this place and its members were a very significant part of my life for many years. I was never one for drama the times I have been active and see no need for a dramatic exit.
Hi Tres, interesting background. I agree that finding 'blogworthy' things to post isn't easy, but when bloggers leave because of the negativity that some people bring here it degrades the blogs as a whole.

    3. something authentic: Okay, I'll give newbies a break if they post something I've seen way too many times before, but if you're just doing it for attention, that will become evident shortly.
    4. please stay away from "dick pics.": let's just say it feels too much like work.... and that's never fun.
    5. If you get easily "butt hurt" this probably isn't gonna an easy place for you to navigate: I had to learn the hard way. Almost cost me someone very nice.

What PSA are you referring to? The chance that we all agree on things is zero. It is how we go about reacting to or expressing it that tends to be problematic here. Personally I don't let strangers dictate what I write. It would be sad to see you go too.

Well, as one blogger asked just the other day, What kind of blog do you want? Personal stories are whining attention seeking dribble, most commenters agreed. Picture posting is boring, also most agreed. Most wanted sex posts, which I'm not currently having, so not much left for me here. I wish I'd known before I shared personal things on my blog, but I should have learned that lesson from my posts on my old profile. So many say they want diversity, but when asked, you find out they really don't. I think this site is done.
The less people we have here the less diversity is possible. The lack of different subjects makes it less interesting. That continued cycle will eat away at the number of people who will come here.

Shoot...reading all these comments makes me glad I just write whatever the hell I want. I believe people will say they want one topic or another...but, frankly, what gets their attention may be something quite different depending on a lot of things.

Things that impact views and/or comments as I've noticed:

1) Blatant honest authenticity
2) Sharing about an authentic experience and asking others to share their own ideas/experiences/preferences
3) # of MUST KNOW THINGS: original and authentic
4) Unapologetic authenticity.

Oh, wait...is there a pattern here?

Also, if the blog even shows up on the main blogs page--that definitely impacts views/comments. I've had plenty recently that just have not ever appeared there.

The reality is blogs that are formulaic are, in a nutshell, formulaic. They become as novel as a Hollywood blockbuster film after awhile. Original work isn't formulaic and doesn't follow a script, although sometimes there are certain structures of writing that are a bit formulaic and more attention getting. Original work carries with it an undeniable stamp of authenticity, the author's voice is crisp and clear, and it simply draws an audience due to its ability to speak to the human experience.

So, I say people should keep on focusing on what interests them and the hell with formulaic writing. But what do I know? Oh, yeah...stuff...lots and lots of stuff...but, hell, YMMV.

MOST of the time I'm well behaved...but if you weren't, and, enjoyed having your ass handed to you, visit my blog and become a subscriber. There you can read all about how I am actively authoring, and rewriting, my life .

Actually, by naming those, some of whom I enjoyed, you’re kind of making my point. More have gone and the number of those who start new blogs, let alone interesting ones, is not filling the void. I’ve looked at a number of the newer posts and haven’t found much of interest and a number of others here feel the same. I think we’ll have to agree to disagree.

One of the points I'm thinking of dressing is the "blogger wars" and how it effects the blogs specifically. Since the big one a year ago there are significantly less bloggers - hence less diversity.

Hey Rascal!!!! Okay, my two cents worth.

I have cut down on my blogging for a couple of reasons, some you named. I don't care to answer or post to the constant barrage of repeat crap such as cut/uncut, does size matter (asked so many times it is beyond pathetic and the responses NEVER change, you have what you have deal with it), shaved/trimmed/natural, and the constant asking of what positions, when you lost your virginity (which I find a crappy question as there are those that lost it on r4pes and it isn't so fun), and just that type of over and over and over again redundancy. I pass them by and don't answer at all. When you see these questions so many times, the size one appearing up to and over 5 times or more A DAY, one just gets sick of it. Yes, it is a sex based site, but honestly one can only say those same things so many times and it gets beyond lame.

The next reason is that I do see the constant fighting. People say "don't answer and they go away" and then that same person writes an entire blog or AL entry on that person or the situation. So much for don't feed the troll. Again, I get sick of it and I don't care to be involved in it.

I would have to add also that the voting thing, not everyone has voting in their blogs thank goodness, but those that do it just gets again beyond stupid. Ask the question what is your favorite color and one writes blue and 15 people mark disagree. WTF??? I think I know my favorite color and voting disagree is just ignorant as all H8ll... see my point?

It is the childish BS that makes me not want to be here. I avoid it and that means less and less to actually post to. I have even had the posters get all ticked off when I try to just add to the conversation and such because they want what they want posted and nothing else. I am not fighting mind you, but I am adding to the conversation is all. It gets really lame.
Hey Rdy,

The things you mentioned are part of what I’m talking about. Like you I ignore the same repetitive stuff unless someone has a different take on the subject – which seems to be pretty rare. But I have to admit my first posts weren’t brilliant pieces either. So hopefully some of those people will learn to post more interesting things. Finding a way to keep the more interesting bloggers to stay is what I’m interested in.

The fighting is something I was intending to address. That caused people to steer away from blogs and blogging just like you and NaughtyPursuit said. It stifles the creativity of, or distracts some people. And yes there are some people who just can’t let go of negativity. I do believe in don't feed the trolls I step away from them and let them dig their own holes. Luckily a number of them are gone.

Thank you for responding.

Hello Red..

For those bloggers who want to take some time off maybe go and come back, you can always take your account offline and it will be here when you come back. That would be my suggestion. Nothing will be lost. Red everyone does take some time off from this site. Really sorry to see any of the bloggers go but it their choice to leave. hugssssssssssss V

Even when I left this place for years, I never deleted my account, or any of my old posts. I see my blog as my diary. I like the diversity these pages can offer, and of course the interaction with others, either for just a "hi" or a different view on something. To go along with a mix of sex stories, fantasies, facts, recipes, songs and poems, politics, and all the rest.
So, for all these reasons, I am staying.
I try to play nice, and expect the same. Seems to be working. I know for others this life here in blog land can be more eventful! To put it politely. But this been the internet, is that not sort of expected? Like may be not guaranteed expected, but something that can happen?
There can be reasons as you say, many and varied, for when people decide to leave or take a break. Everyone who leaves or comes in, have their own reasons and justifications. It could be a bit upsetting to see them go, especially if you were friends, followers, etc. All we can do at those times is let the person know of our own feelings about it, and remind them that they are the number 1 to decide.

I have enjoyed some of the bloggers that have left or are leaving, but I feel that it is their choice, and they are leaving for their own reasons.

I absolutely wish them the best in life, and their future endeavors!

It's honestly not going to affect me one way or the other though. I come here to read what is here, respond if the topic resonates with me, and 99.5% of the time.....stay out of the "blogger wars" or other nonsense that sometimes transpires in blogland.

Be Honest..Be Sincere...Be REAL

I tend to ignore a lot of the BS and carping that happens on here as well as ignore
the interpersonal nastiness that keeps raising its head. This is not the place for petty stuff or slamming so it needs to stop. When in doubt I am reminded of the blog RESPECT. I write what I wish and read those posts that interest me. I leave comments when I feel one is earned or warranted. Other than that I am content in my little corner of blogland, doing foodie research and sharing thoughtsand knowledge I like Symposium and would love to see more folks contribute to it. After all it's open to everyone. The internet is not my life and I do have lots on my personal plate right now offsite so perhaps this might be the daylight needed to keep me going
