Mexican Cartel

Tonight I picked up two guys from the airport and when I asked where they were from they said Bogata, Columbia. All I could think of was that they were from the Mexican Cartel. We chatted for a few minutes but I am not sure their English was very good, it was okay but they talked all the way to their hotel. I knew they were not cartel because they talked about a sous chef, restaurants and kitchens. I do not know much Spanish but I do know a few words.

Have you ever traveled to another country? If you do, do you ever do any research to find out local customs? Or do you just go not knowing anything that is proper to do or not to do in a country? I have only ever traveled to Ontario, Canada and Nogales, Mexico, so I really do not have much room to talk but…. If I went to China and just stuck my chopsticks in my rice while eating, would that be considered rude? What if I went on a business meeting for dinner, and everything rides on this one meal and you have done something rude. Why wouldn’t you research things that happen in the country you are visiting? All this because tipping is a very big part of the American culture. It is really considered rude to not tip a service person. Waiters, hairdressers, doorman, bartenders, taxi driver and so many more professions should be tipped based on service. 10% is the lowest you should ever go and that is for very, very bad service. Just be sure it is bad service not because they are swamped or the food is not to your liking. Neither have anything to do with the service that is given to you. The average tip is 20% for average service. I do pretty good with tips from people that know and understand about tipping but even business men who come to this country often do not understand tipping. Why??? Tip your server, taxi driver, doorman and anyone else in the service industry. Okay, not retail people because they are paid for their job and do not rely on tips. If you do not know, ask.

Oh, by the way don't stick your chopsticks directly into your rice or dish. Doing so is a symbolic gesture of wishing death to all at the table! Lay them flat to the side of your plate instead.

Not much else was going on tonight. It was a slow, slow Tuesday night. Hope this week is another good week, like last week but it took me all the way until Saturday to know really how good it was. Funny.

Thank you again for reading my blog! I love you and you are the best watchers ever!

I never use chopsticks when I go for a sit-down meal at a Chinese restaurant!
I've been all over the UK but I've only been abroad to France where I ate mainly English food!

I would probably go to American restaurants when I go someplace else too. At least you have been to France.
