Black Friday has become like the After Christmas Sales. In the end the shops don't take any extra money over the Friday, Christmas and the Sales, but when one steals a march on the others they all follow quickly. There could be Turkey Buying Monday before Thanks Giving, or Mince Pie buying Tuesday before Christmas, and how about Chocolate Bunny buying day before Easter. “For a moment, nothing happened. Nope I don't go out shopping on Black Friday, nor do I cyber shop. I'm not really a shopper. When I need something I get in, get what I want, and then get out. No amount of "Door Buster" pricing will lure me out into the madness. My feeling is if Retailers can offer such fantastic prices on goods this one day out of the year why not do so for the other 364 days? The mark -ups on goods are astronomical during the Christmas Season. Let's face it most of those "deals" they offer are limited to just a 100 items or so, after the budget busters are sold out your paying full mark up for them, least you want to disappoint little Johnny, or Susie come Christmas morning you'll pay it. A case in point, one Black Friday, a few years ago a co worker I had at the time stood in line at a famous electronic store waiting for six hours, all so he could buy one of the few large screen flat TV's they had at door buster pricing. Being one of the "lucky" few who were able to get one of the deals he took this prize home,wrapped it as a gift to his family then waited for Christmas morning. Christmas came and when the TV was un wrapped they found it was a dud, didn't work at all. Big let down for the kids on what was to be a joyous day. When he returned the TV after Christmas, well be cause it was a "Deal" he couldn't exchange it. Getting only the money he paid for the item not what it sold for normally. So, he couldn't get the gift in the end, sure he got the cash back, but not the gift he wanted for his family.

No Black Friday shopping for me ! I prefer evenings middle of the week usually quieter and people are not so savage ! the fights in CDN Tire parking lot ruin the Xmas spirit for me!! Instead of a mall go downtown Grande Prairie and hit all the small shops can find some unique gifts and keep the Christmas Spirit ! and your little black dress pic WOW ! Mmmmxoxo

No shopping for me on Black Friday. No value in braving the cold and the crowds. Will spend the day naked and having fun instead!

stopped at a Walmart last night, most of the specials were gone when we got there, people were clustered here and there for some trivial bargains like DVDs, and of course, TVs were in some carts

First off I HATE BLACK FRIDAY the first time I went my kids told me to stand in line so they could shop and have a good place in the check out line.. My hubby had never been so last night we went to Best Buy to get a new printer and the line was around the block, omfg too much he said. But then I already knew how it was going to be. He say's to me "NEVER AGAIN"  Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I think it's a bit of a big sales con - they reduce prices of some things but the prices of those items were probably hiked a few months ago so they are just bringing it back down to what it was previously. And it's on items you don't need. However, saying that, it doesn't stop some people thinking they are getting a bargain.

The Maine Mall in South Portland has Best Buy as one of the anchor retailers. Across the street is a twin tower huge hotel. I watched parking lot rage one year from the hotel's 9th floor. The anger in the pouring rain was unbelievable at midnight. People started lining up at 6pm and it doesn't open until 12:01 am due to our state laws ( thank goodness). I worked 15 years for a division of Bed Bath and Beyond. Retail folks are totally disrespected this time of year. Customers become rude, demanding and down right insulting. The use of cell phones does not help the issue. One time a man who must have had a liquid lunch was singing dirty Christmas carols as he waited in line and other customers were all waiting to see if I would get him to stop. The language was atrocious. When I spoke to him quietly, he became verbally abusive and then threatening. I told him I would call the police if he did not cease- that this may be a retail store but it was private property and his offense would not be tolerated. I finally called the cops and his friends, who were just as inebriated, got him out of the store Not my idea of a weekend to shop- ever (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

Hi Joy. thanks for taking me further with this post... Only because you are height challenged did you receive an elbow to the breasts... If it was the gentle fingers of a lover from God's country it would not have happened on Black Friday... as, this man of love does not shop on Thanksgiving day or the day after... I have enough to be thankful for... that I do not need to fight the crowds for that occasion... If I want something... like a woman... I go out and hit her on the head with my stick... and drag her home to my cave... I don't have to lavish the one I luv with silly trinkets... jewels or gadgets... she luvs me for the God's country place that I live in... she appreciates the beauty of the word "Yes"... It's pretty sick that people trample each other just because they want something so much. I wait until early December to shop.   Funny women are incredibly sexy!

I don't do that Friday shopping!!!! never!!! ever!! never! I have shopped online once from home for an item I could have got at a store near by, 50 mile round trip. The only shopping I will do online now is for something that is difficult to purchase locally. Shopping online is putting people out of work. My ease is not worth families not having an income. People out of work: designers of the building and interiors of the stores, the cabinets, the hangers, the janitors, heating and cooling people, the truckers, the warehouse people, the store office managers, accountants, the store managers, building maintenance and ground keeping people, the construction workers, sign workers, stock people cashiers,,,,and the list goes on and on about the people that have jobs in someway related to retail stores. Yep, let's put people out of work to save ourselves some bother. When they are out of work their money does not flow round and round. Money flowing from one hand to another and back again is economy, Which affects everyone.
