I definitely watched Don Kirschner's Rock Concert or Midnight Special for the bigger bands but to see the Punk and New Wave bands I was more into it was SNL and Friday's that featured them. Seeing the Clash live was mind blowing!

Yeah, I grew up on the "classic rock". It's why I tried to be a "rock star". Well, that and the chicks. LOL

I can't name a favorite, but I will say this. San Antonio was a hot spot for concerts back then, due to two dj's that worked to get the bands down here. We had all of them here and they were cheap back then. Like 9 bucks to go see a concert with three bands. haha.

Saw AC/DC so many times I lost count, black sabbath, ufo, rush, ...ok.. the list could go on forever. Suffice to say, we rarely missed a concert.

Slash or Saul...Is a "player's player"...As in he can do it all...He proved that to me when he did all of the guitar parts in the "Ray" sound track...Personally picked by the genius Ray Charles himself...Axel is a douche...No regard for his lame ass what so ever...Have fun at the show and share any pictures you might take...Midnight Special and D.C.'s Rock Concert were always taped by me for later viewing...I was gigging quite regular at that point in time so I was kinda busy on the weekends...There was another gem of late night music hosted by David Sanborn called Night Music...All styles of music with some very interesting collaborations...It came on after SNL for a few years...Taped those too...Now one of these days I have to transfer all those VHS tapes to digital...For further enjoyment...Blog and let Blog...I'll be in the Garage...

During that time the shows were on this kid was out an about from the start of the weekend until the wee hours of Sunday night...never turned on the tube!
I have a lot of favorite groups and none stand our more than another for me...been to a lot of concerts in my time.
The musics I grew up with are wildly varied..Stuff on Mich Miller, step mother's country, dad's bagpipe music, grandmother's folk music, cartoon classical, LOL which still defines my taste in music,,,the first few 8 tracks I bought for my car are; Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Paranoid both by Black Sabbath, a James Taylor and Neil Diamond album…early 1970s LOL Currently I have 3 Sabbath albums in the CD player... also The best of War and a Kansas album. What a mix.....

    Quoting  :

I saw Rush so many times. Use to play most of their stuff and could sing it all. I'm not as stretched vocally anymore , but I can still pull off a pretty good acoustic rendition and sing Closer to the Heart. Love that song.

And yeah the professor, Peart. really has no rivals on the drums in my opinion.

Hi Joy.

thanks for the journey back in time...

Those shows were great...

So for all you Classic Rock lovers : Who is your favourite band from the era? you know it is hard to pinpoint a fave band, let alone an era... I don't like boundaries on my choices... it feels restrictive... however, if push came to shove... I would have to choose "The Beatles"... my older brother introduced me to their sound...

Which Classic Rock band have you been Pumped to see live and was it worth the price of admission for you? The Beatles... Only got to see Paul McCartney and Wings...

Did you watch Don Kirschner's Rock Concert or Midnight Special? Yes... both... sweet memories... but, I also watched the Soul train on Saturdays...

made me think of this...

The Beatles - "Rock and Roll Music"

Just let me hear some of that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a backbeat, you can't lose it
Any old time you use it
It's gotta be rock roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
I've got no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And lose the beauty of the melody
Until they sound just like a symphony
That's why I go for that that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It's got a backbeat, you can't lose it
Any old time you use it
It's gotta be rock roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
I took my loved one over 'cross the tracks
So she can hear my man awail a sax
I must admit they have a rockin' band
Man, they were blowin' like a hurrican'
That's why…

Wow! Guns and Roses without Axle Rose is like having a puppy without the shit! He's the reason I never liked Guns and Roses! I did used to watch Midnight Special, but I was so high back then I couldn't tell you who I saw.

I am NOT to young to have watched those shows, in fact am betting I saw 75% of them 1st time they aired. And I agree classic rock is my preference to listen to, AND I was a singer in a country band for 14 years, BUT, all of rock owes dues to country music, as has been acknowledged by most rockers, and without Country, orchestra would have probably segued into techno and rock wouldnt be known at all

I never saw the Midnight Special when it originally aired. I did see what it was in an infomercial. Cream and CCR from the '60's and Styx and Steely Dan from the '70's are my favorites.

Hello Joy
I didn't get to watch the two shows all that much back then most of the time I had to work.
I did like CCR and have a CD with their song still will listen to it.
