What an amazing post. Lots of detail here and well worth a re-read. I love Herb Alpert

Great post. I have found I usually prefer instrumental music and always have. I am surprised that The Ventures "Walk, Don't Run" was not on your list. Found a Venture's CD that included both of their versions (original '60 and the '64 release) plus the Chet Atkins version that inspired their arrangement as well as the original piece as played by it's writer, jazz guitarist Johnny Smith. I found listening to all four arrangemets in a row quite interesting.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

Excellent discography on some classic instrumentals. I'd like to ad "Caravan" by The Ventures. And . . . an added sidelight. While Steve "the Colonel" Cropper was the guitarist in Booker T & The MGs, the bassist who wanted to title the song "Funky Onions" was Donald "Duck" Dunn. Both were highly regarded session/studio musicians in the music community . . . but they gained popular fame in "The Blues Brothers Show Band and Rhythm & Blues Revue".

The Ventures, the drummer that recorded their first hit song enlisted in the Air Force a few weeks later! He sat in on their 50th reunion with them in uniform,
He was a Four Star General! It's on U tube.

Jorgen Ingmann was given credit for inventing and developing sound-on-sound recording, recording over an earlier recording without erasing previous tracks!
When he recorded Apache, he played all the tracks and instruments himself!
He cut only one album using that technique!

Green Onions and Jessica are two of my favourite instrumental hits. I also have Rise, Telstar and Apache 45's in my collection.
Peter gunn by Art of Noise and Autobahn by Kraftwerk are another two I like.
