I am in love....
I am in love.... ...with Dimitri Annenkov...born in Russia in 1965, 'with great skill and patience, Annenkov develops his time-consuming compositions that appear deceptively simple but are actually quite complicated. He has a remarkable ability to take a two-dimensional canvas and create objects that are so lifelike that time after time people are drawn to touch his paintings, only to find out what they likely already knew; the objects in the paintings are not real! Annenkov is a connoisseur of art. With the skill of a master he blends his designs with colors and textures, creating a balance between animate and still forms. His wonderful use of light brings his treasured mementoes to life and gives the viewer a glimpse of Annenkov the man.' Here is a photo of one of Annenkov's paintings that really shows his skill at creating a still life and painting it on a canvas with such realism: And here is my attempt to practice my skill with colored pencils, shading, colors etc by copying this still life by Annenkov: I am not finished with it by any means. Comparing the two really lets me see what I need to work on. Colored pencils have recently gotten the label of being the new coloring crayons for older adults....though the use of colored pencils to color in pre-printed intricate pictures is popular (and quite relaxing), the skill to use the colored pencils to create works of art takes a lot of time, patience and skill. Already in this copy of mine, there are half a dozen layers of color in every piece in the picture. And I can see now that I need to add more lol deeper, richer, darker color. But that's the process....start out light, slow, build up to the real thing. Hmmm, that could apply to a lot of things in life, eh? Very nice. Colors and I don't get along very well, I stick with charcoal.

Isn't that painting style called trompe l'oeil ? I've seen writing desks painted that way with letters laying around and ink wells that are just painted on them. . You'd swear you could touch them. . So cool to look at. Although his is fantastic, I really like yours too. . Beautifully done ! You have a great talent !
