"Those Were The Days"

Hello and welcome to my first blog
Titled "Those Were The Days"
If all goes well this will be a weekly blog.

My intentions are for those that leave comments,
I'd like to hear from you on your favorite memories.
Leave a comment and get involved...
Communicate with others.

This segment is all about the discount department stores we grew up with.
This is where your family shopped for clothes, home goods, furniture, toys etc...

Growing up in the NJ/NY metro area three stores come to mind.

Two Guys
Korvettes
S. Klein

Seems every week our family would do a department store run.
Heading to the store siting way in the back in our station wagon.
(Family cars we'll talk about next week).

We all have fond memories to share.
What's yours?

Thanks so much for checking my blog out.
I appreciate it very much...

~Holly

Hi Holly .. all the best with your new blog theme

Dover, Delaware had a W.T. Grants . I remember tagging along with my mother and sometimes eating at the lunch counter there. There was a gigantic fork and spoon as decoration on the wall in that corner of the store.

Realistically, they may have been 6 feet or even 10 feet tall, but in the mind of a then 5 year old, they looked 50 feet high.

Love it...
I have been to a WT Grants in Pennsylvania visiting the grandparents.
Loved those food counter areas. Great shakes

Indianapolis:
My earliest memories are of going downtown around Christmas time and the windows being decorated with Winter scenes. They also had a large clock hanging off teh building and would have a little bronze statue of an angel mounted on that clock
The stores have changed and we have a large mall that has moved into some of the old Department stores and they have brought the angel back and the Ayres "tea room" back for selected times
I will comment on the cars next week and the station wagons trying to ride backwards down the highway

@Diehard - Rickels! we had one in Pleasantville.

Right here in AC we had a Two Guys where the AC PD Police motor pool and impound lot is out on BHP. We also had a Woolworth, Jamesway, Bradlees, Godons, Steinbach, and a Ben Franklin 5&10.

HollyChatsNJ replies on 2/5/2020 2:36 am:
Thank you for the comment.
I moved into AC back in 2011. Heard there was a Two Guys here. Heard of all the others you mentioned except for the Ben Franklin 5&10
