Shit's getting real around here.... I came home from work today and discovered a new posting on the door to my building. "Non Essential Visitors Not Allowed" It went on to list what was considered essential and non essential. Babysitting.... Non essential. To all those parents who are still required to work, babysitting is VERY essential. It wasn't all that long ago that I would be overcome with stress and fear at times because I had nobody to watch my and I feared snow days and school breaks because I would have to miss work. Missing work meant bad attendance.... Bad attendance meant getting in trouble at work or even the loss of my job. Not to mention missing an entire days worth of pay... I feel for all those working parents out there right now. I know this can't be easy. |

Similar guidelines here, but there are obvious exemptions, such as your circumstances, for key workers. Shit's really getting real......I found out someone I had sat in an all day meeting with 4 weeks ago had been ill with the virus for the last 3 weeks! Yikes! I did a count back immediately I heard, no clear symptoms for me, phew! People really need to pay this thing far more respect than they are! Over 350,000 confirmed cases in the US with the true number estimated to be 10 to 20 times higher. I hope your customers are showing a bit more restraint this week. Take care! Lawyers, management for the complex says it all. Haven't met many lawyers that weren't worthless lying pieces of self centered shit balls. I agree that it is likely someone complained about Grandma down the hall. People can be assholes. They shut down the daycare places for all but the essential workers here the last I had heard. Haven't heard anything about baby sitters in home. Which is a lot better then sending large groups of kids to daycares. Stupid shit comes out when stupid people have the power to think they can make rules for the good of others.

Child care in Michigan is essential so that's horseshit!

I think I would want the local TV reporter to see that, may put a different spin on it, in these cases "the babysitter" is essential.. Sometimes a TV reporter can make enough noise to get that resolved, good luck, be safe

Yup....thats def a rock and a hard place. Our Gov closed all Child Care centers 2 weeks ago, and left a few open for only those essential worker families. Yet, as a commentor stated, how could they enforce that. Just another battle , with the stance of, " i am an essential worker and i need child care, what would you suggest?" These are definitely crazy crazy times ~~

I think whoever came up with that "decree" is non-essential.

Perhaps, if you explained that your "essential" business requires you to be there, that may grant you an exception. I hope that is the case be safe

And if the person that comes in to baby sit is not standing next to any one what the harm stay in side what the harm. My brother in-law own a day care he now at home sick he close the day care. So how many kids need to be watched and parents like you said have to work. Ild say FK them.

So those who have younger children who can not be left alone...will be left alone if parent(s) have to leave to go to work? Who the hell determined that babysitters are non-essential? Of course, having an outsider around your child is not good at this time, either. Kind of the rock and hard place situation.... For childcare, it's listed as essential travel for only the purposes of taking care of the child in the child's home. Which means, babysitters are considered essential visitors. For purposes of this order, critical infrastructure workers also include: Child care workers (including workers at disaster relief child care centers), but only to the extent necessary to serve the children or dependents of critical infrastructure workers as defined in this order. This category includes individuals (whether licensed or not) who have arranged to care for the children or dependents of critical infrastructure workers.
