The Discovery

I didn't realize how mysterious the fact that I had an ex-husband was to my coworkers...

That they've sat and pondered what kind of guy I would find myself married to.

I was headed to punch in and get my intake screen this morning when I was stoped by a coworker.

"I finally figured out who your ex-husband is."

"You did? How did you figure it out?"

"He was talking to your , out there, and I asked him if that was his dad. I talk to that dude all the time, I had no idea that was your ex-husband."

"Yah, he's a pretty talkative guy."

"So, yah, not what I expected you to be married to."

I laughed and continue to the back to get my screen.

I hear that comment often... He couldn't be ANY more different from me if he tried. People often assume that I would have been married to a guy in a suit, someone working in an office somewhere. They assume he's tall and sophisticated with a great sense of humor.

In actuality he is short, shorter than I am now as he is experiencing spinal compression and bone loss from alcoholism. He works in rough construction so he is rough around the edges... Sometimes unshaved, always in work boots, and his sense of humor is lacking.

Sometimes things are best kept a mystery.

I don't really think of it as "what was I thinking." There was a time when we were really happy. I often wonder how things went so wrong, though.

Isn't it strange how love never matches expectation McLade?

He must be a good man. I guess we all have our demons.
My daughter asked me if I wanted to see something funny yesterday. She showed me a video of her dad, drunk off his ass, standing in the kitchen holding himself up with the bar. The moment he took his hand off the counter, he fell flat backwards onto the kitchen floor and passed out. It bothers me that my kids see this, it bothers me even more that they think this is normal. When I asked her if he was ok, she said "Dad was drunk, he's fine".

    Hi secret_lade

    thanks for sharing another layer

I remember, a few years ago, we were at a Happy Hour with co-workers, and, this lady introduced us to her ex-husband

everybody's mouth was open in astonishment

this lady that we worked with was very bright, and career driven

    she got things done

I did not picture her being married to a tall, dark and handsome individual

I wasn't alone in those thoughts

    but, I didn't say anything

the next day, she went around asking everyone what they thought of her ex

    It was funny

    opposites attract

    or something like that

    hmm

    stay safe

Baby seems we never ever agree
    You like the movies
    And I like T.V.
    I take thing serious
    And you take 'em light
    I go to bed early
    And I party all night
    Our friends are sayin'
    We ain't gonna last
    Cuz I move slowly
    And baby I'm fast
    I like it quiet
    And I love to shout
    But when we get together
    It just all works out
    I take--2 steps forward
    I take--2 steps back
    We come together
    Cuz opposites attract
    And you know--it ain't fiction
    Just a natural fact
    We come together
    Cuz opposites attract
So... Are you saying she was unattractive? I have an interesting theory on attractiveness and couples. Anymore, I'm more attracted to a person's personality. How a guy treats me and the person he is outweighs looks every time.

Hopefully you don't have to see her all the time.... Because of the kids, I end up seeing mine all the time.

Then I look at a pic of her and me when we first hooked up. I catch her smile and that look she had - back then.
And it dawns on me... 😶
Looks fade.... And then your left with the person they are. He has changed so much over the years, he became angry and bitter. Some of it is because of the divorce, some of it is just him. Never happy with anything or anyone. There was a time that he was happy kind.

Omg... Ha ha ha. He's really not dufusy looking, anymore he just looks angry all the time. Back in the day, he was actually very attractive and kind. His vice has not been kind to him over the years.

When we first met.... He was very handsome and very kind. I felt so lucky to have found him. It's unfortunate he allowed alcohol to take over his life.
