Who wants to be normal when you can be weird like me?  The Spawn and I decided to have a girls weekend this weekend. I write a lot about her crappy teenage attitude and her sharp powers of observation, but I don't really enlighten you all on the fun, wonderful things she does also. She really is a smart, talented girl... When she brought home yet ANOTHER report card with all A's, I told her we were going birthday shopping. Next week is her birthday. So, off we went..... Petoskey bound, as, that was where she wanted to go. After hitting a few stores, we were eating our lunch on the waterfront when I asked her... "Hey! They've got a Goodwill up here. Want to stop at Goodwill?" "Of course!" "I just don't understand your fascination with Goodwill." "Oh my God mom, all you need to know is, it's there." "Whatever.... It's kind of chilly out here, are you cold? Maybe we should eat in the car." "Uh, where's your new coat??" "I bought that for Christmas, I can't wear it until Christmas." "You aren't going to live that long!" "What?!? You know something I don't know??" "I meant, you'll have to start wearing your coat or you're going to die from exposure." "Awww.... she does<b> love </font></b>her Momma!" Groaning from the Spawn..... "You are SO weird." "One day, you'll be sitting with your , and you'll be telling her all about your weird mom who liked to hide outside the bathroom and scare you when you opened the door. You'll tell her about all the road trips you took and the sights you saw while she exclaimed over and over 'lets get a picture!'" "She'll probably think I'm weird too." "Yep." |

Explain that logic to me, please: you bought a coat but can’t wear it for after Christmas?! 👀🧐? In the meantime, you’ll just freeze? Madness I like goodwill too, but it does my head in: I don’t have the patience for shopping that many people do. When I shop, I go straight to what I want, grab it and get out. That’s why I wear the same style of boots, same brand of jeans(size might change but brand and style doesn’t) and 95% of my tops are black. Goodwill has a lot going on and when I do have the patience, I spend more money than advisable. The appeal is depending on location, they have good stuff. I used to go to one in Chelsea in NYC. I kid you not: I scored brand new Ugg boots with the original tags still on for $30 because some schmuck decided it was no longer in season. I tend to look for Goodwill stores in “rich people land”: the part of town where rich/upper middle class people live: there are usually hidden gems that they donate and it’s such a steal. That’s the appeal for me.

Teenage kids are in transition between really full of wisdom... ... and really close to being able to express it. They're just missing a few years and a tussle of books. ❗
