The Birthday Gift

The Birthday Gift

Birthdays in the age of COVID....

The Spawn's little friend had a birthday today, but because of COVID, they had a 'virtual' birthday party.

WTF?!?

Most bizarre thing I've ever experienced.... Personally, I think it was an easy way to get gifts for a without having to them yourself, as, we still had to drop by the house to drop off the gift even though there were no actual birthday party events included.

And, because I'm that person that can get lost trying to find a Dollar General in a one store town, I had to call the parents to get directions to their home.

Planning to just plug an address into my GPS, I was thrown off a bit when the dad actually started giving me directions.

"Head east on M-32 until you get to...."

What was happening here? East?!? Is that toward Joburg or Elmira...

Ugh!

"Hold on, just a sec. I'm driving, I thought you were going to give me your address so I have my GPS set up on my car's navigation screen."

"GPS? You don't need that, the house is really easy to find...." You just drive here, turn here, head up this road a quarter of a mile...

Is he on crack??

I might as well be following the constellations.

Don't ask how I did it, but I did manage to find the house to drop off the gift.

Both Spawns excited, cheerfully laughing through the screen door as we dropped the gift off on the porch, virtual party already underway with my Spawn attending on her phone.

I consider this one a WIN for today.

Happy Monday!

    that's so funny

    thanks for sharing

Peter, Paul and Mary - "Virtual Party"

    It's 11 o'clock in the evening - I'm barefoot -
And I'm logged-on to the INTERNET.
I usually pickup my e-mail in the afternoon
But on weekends sometimes I forget...
I yell down the hall to the bedroom, "Honey, I'll be right there..."
She says "that's ok, dear, I got a brand new book here and
    I'm not going anywhere".
A funny thing about a couple when a couple of years've gone by.
You don't talk; you think you know each other so well you don't have to try...
you take for granted what you used to call enchanted just a while ago...
ah..when does a mystery turn into history?
    I don't know...
I got a flu shot this year.... Something I haven't done since I was in like 7th grade. So far, so good.

Hmmm... Wow. Sounds like an interesting experience all around.

Love it when they tell you it's a piece of cake to get to their place. They forget to mention that the stop 🛑 sign you were supposed to turn left on, was removed from the corner... 2 years ago.
    True story... FFS!
Those sound like directions I would give... Yikes! LOL

My friend had a birthday for her daughter last May, but it was a drive by, hand the present out the window, then drive away.
I do like the idea of the virtual one better than the drive by. Drive by would have been easier, but there wasn't the interaction like the virtual one. The virtual one gave the girls the opportunity to face time and giggle and practice dance moves.... It was an interesting sight.

My ex husband was amazing at that kind of stuff. Somehow he always seemed to know where to turn, where to go, and what landmarks we needed to find. Me, on the other hand, not so much. I'm like the girl who needs to know if I have to turn right or left....

Had too go that direction myself one time and discovered that the red barn , at some point , had been painted white with red strips ; too look like a candy cane !!! oooppps !!!
Ooops! LOL Even better though, it's the candy cane barn!

That is kind of funny.... But, you know what, those are my kind of directions. LOL I'm way better with landmarks than I am with road names and "head north".

my friend LULU moved to a new subdivision and it doesn't GPS on my car. it's off an established road so i GPS for that street and then try not to miss the entrance to her subdivision.

even though i have lived in SAVANNAH before i am really lost finding my way around town without my GPS.

i've been seeing a therapist this year but we haven't been able to connect via phone app the last several sessions so she just calls me. i'm glad Spawn enjoyed her virtual time with her friend.
It was a crazy little party... I could hear all the girls giggling while we were driving home. The birthday girl's parents had set up a Facebook thing and all the girls joined from all their various locations. My daughter's gift was a little bracelet with a big cupcake, and she didn't want the cupcake to get all smashed up riding the bus.... etc. so I did volunteer to drop the gift off.

That was on me.
