I'm getting older too.

I'm getting older too.

So all the phrases being tossed around these days to the effect of 50 is the new 40, gets me thinking. Does that conversely mean that 40 is the new 50? That doesn't sound so hot. Does it have an upper limit? Like is 20 really the new 10? While I have seen some 20 year olds that might fit that mentally, basic biology would say that can't be true physically. What with puberty and all.

I'm going to use the assumption they're talking about physically. I stay in pretty good shape for a guy in his 50's. Actually I'm in better shape now then most of my 40's. I'm hoping it's just physical attributes they're talking about. I'd like to think mentally, I'm wiser than when I was in my 40's.

Anyways, I do find some conflict in the studies and reports around this train of thought. We know it wasn't a magical wand, so I would assume they're saying we're in better shape. So we're working out and eating better? Well that sorta fly's in the face of the story's on the higher percentages of people that are overweight. Or wait...does it mean that being overweight isn't that big a deal? You're still 10 years younger.

And of course a plus to this line of thinking is your diet plans. If you were planning on losing some weight and getting in better shape at 50, now there's no rush. You can just wait till your 60. Cause at that point, you'll be the new 50.

Now in reality, I say most of this in jest. I know there's some scientific data that we're living longer. But I think a lot of these story's are around because people hate the idea of getting older. Well at least after they hit the drinking age. So we try to find stuff that makes us feel better about aging.

Personally, I don't like the idea of getting old and dying. But I don't really fret about getting older. So far, there's nothing I can't do now, that I did in my 30's. And there's a bunch of things that I'm much better at now. If the family genes hold true, and I wasn't a product of a extra service provided by the milkman, I should live quite a while still. I'm looking forward to it.

Does it feel like your really your chronological age? Does it slow you down with anything? Certainly not with sex, right? Does it really bother you that you're getting older? Or is it one of those things you don't give much thought to? Well, at least not till some bozo comes along and posts a blog about it.

Two things got me on this line of thought. First was listening to Landslide on the way home.

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too ...and yes, the Stevie Nicks version.

And getting home and teaching my youngest to parallel park. She nailed it, so I guess I have a new teen driver in the household. Sigh.. She's actually a good driver, and to be honest..that's about the only thing that makes me feel old. Can't believe my youngest is that old now.

Were all getting older and you know I don't feel or look my age and I think that's a good thing and I thank my kids and grand kids for keeping me feeling younger. I think it's all about how you feel about yourself that counts. As I really don't care what others think.

I don't really think about these things much as we only have one life to live and we should just live it to the best of our abilities..Have a great GIVING day..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I think that's true..a lot of it is just a mindset. Though some people with health problems might argue that point.

It's funny, my grandkids keep me feeling young, but it makes me think of my age when I see how old my kids are getting. LOL I have one who turned 30.

Today the mentality of a lot of older folks is the constant reminder from the ones who are mentally inept and the advertisements from companies telling us we have to think younger and have to make changes in the way we view things, and obviously keep healthy ..as if we didn't already know that ..Mature older people don't act like teens ..lol..hell if I listened to all the hype I would be like you 96 years old...lol..just kidding keeping a young mind is not that hard to do just gotta get rid of the toxic ones who tell you " hey you cant do that !" I can, I will and I do just watch me...lol

I'm working on 60 being the new 30 that way I can hook up with "older women" in their 40s and 50s.

Do I feel my age? Don't know once I get someone to feel me up I'l tell ya.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

50 is the new 40. I don't think it has anything to do with what shape we're in (round is a shape, right) but more the vibrancy still in us. Modern conveniences have lightened the labor in our daily lives so we're not as worn out as the generation before. Also, young people have a skewed concept of 'old' and that changes as they get closer to the designated age.

As for me - when those young cubs tell me they're looking for a mature woman, I reply, "What makes you think I'm mature?"

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

That's actually a very good point. Not letting others around you tell you how to feel or act , cause you're getting old. LOL

I'm gonna have fun when I really get in my ninety's. I'm gonna be that old dude embarrassing everyone.

I think you're absolutely right on the younger people's idea of old being skewed. Good point.

And I love your response on the mature woman. hahaha...Nothing says we have to always act our age now , does it?

We're in the same boat there. My last exam they asked if I was a vegetarian because of my numbers. LOL Told them I eat red meat at least three times per week.

I may be old, but I refuse to grow up!
My mind still tells me I'm somewhere in my 20s or 30s. Unfortunately my body tells a whole different story...damn it. Too many injuries and having arthritis all my life has made 60 feel like...well...pretty much like 60. At least I don't LOOK that old when I'm whining about hurting!

I should probably knock on wood before I say this, but I'm shocked I don't have major problems. With all the motorcycle wrecks, fights, sports, stunts I pulled I should be barely able to walk by now. LOL

The physical stuff can be something that just can't be overcome with a good attitude. Especially the arthritis.

I like to think I am growing old gracefully. The age number can mess with your mind if you allow it. My husband died at 46. My dad died at 57. I will never complain about my age. Maybe about my aching joints and wrinkles, but never my age. And you look “mahvelous”

I told someone the other day, that the way I lived my life early on, every day I wake up since I turned 50 is a miracle. If I'm breathing , able to get around, and mentally fit, then it doesn't matter what the calendar says.

And I agree also on the Stevie. Love her voice.

I like your mentality. You're an intelligent lady, who also knows how to have fun. Not afraid to pull out your inner kid flag and fly it with the best of them. I think that would keep one young.

The rest, I agree. I think it's just a way for some people to say..I'm not 50. Really, I'm the new 40.

You know, I see on a lot of profiles that age is just a number.. I agree it is a REAL number. I do like your philosophy of 50/40 that helps my mental outlook some what. I try to stay in shape, I do exercise daily, I have a special place for that , the kitchen table with a fork and knife, LOl Mentally I think I am in good shape, I remember day and night, yesterday and tomorrow. It is a good life and hope to be here for a goodly amount of time , got a lot of living left to do!!! Young Man, have a good evening 32 F here now will be 19F at day light... may need shoes and shirt tomorrow

Well thank you. I eat healthy, work out, but honestly, I think it's more of the gene pool I swim in. We live long and stay pretty healthy.

I do at times think..wow am I really this old. I don't feel it, but the calendar doesn't lie. I just don't dwell on it. It's just a number.

I definitely do not feel like my chronological age, lol. When my daughter turned 30 earlier this month, I couldn't quite see how that was remotely possible, since I am only 35.

I think the whole "50 is the new 40" this partly related to the fact that people are living longer...and also maybe waiting longer to marry...and also because, perhaps, we all just don't want to face the fact we are aging.

I do worry about dying sometimes...about not being around to see my grandbabies get married and have little ones. And that will totally wig me out. Then I just remind myself to quit worrying about shit I have no control over, and just get on with things.

I'm pretty much at the same weight I was in my college years and my belt size is still a 33... I am concerned about getting older though... I don't think I'm as dedicated as I should be with keeping in shape so I'll have to get back into the routine ... Studies always seem to flip 180 degrees... over time.. Remember when they told us coffee and cigarettes were good for you ? Oh ... wait a minute... They never said it was good for you... I've gotta re-read that one...

Haha..yeah when people say I don't look old enough to have kids my age, I tell them I had my first kid when I was 8.

The main reason I quit smoking, started eating healthy and working out again, was my grandsons. I remember thinking I wanted to be there to watch them grow, but not just sitting on a couch. I've already started teaching them to body board. My son and I both keep them interested in drums and guitars.

It is a sobering thought to think one day, all that will be left of me is a memory. I just try to make sure it's great memories they have.

That's actually a pretty great thing on the weight. The waist ratio is a pretty good indicator.

And hey, I read something the other day saying coffee is back to being good for you. LOL I don't pay much attention to the studies..I just eat healthy, foods..Try to stay away from anything processed. Like Lalane use to say. If man made it , don't eat it. LOL
