Safety Arm saved me a few times! We would ride around in the bed of a pickup truck, at highway speeds.

So It has been for generation after generation. As my father (a landed immigrant to this country) delivered this lecture to me, I wanted (but didn't dare) to point out that although I was living in a *lap of luxury* (compared to his suffering in occupied Europe) I still had problems and worries. In many ways, this is the world our parents wanted for us. They may have rubbed it in our faces, but they worked their asses off to make it happen. I do not begrudge my children the *better* life they enjoy. I do appreciate that they are stressed (who isn't these days?!) and fight the proverbial battles I know nothing about. If I can leave them one Big Idea, it would be to leave the world a little better than they found it.

Oddly, I think it's harder for young men to get laid today than it was in my day in the 80s.

Wow, I remember those fun days. That was well written and describe really to the T! You were describing the 60's and 70's while comparing today. I remember we had to fix our own TVs. That's when we had to use the tube tester....Good times!! lol And oh yeah, I remember those 45s behind cereal boxes, they were great tunes. But we have seen the progression of our living styles change over times. The thing is, we never noticed it, until you think about it. I'm loving what we have now. I don't miss fixing cassette tapes with scotch tape and a pencil to wind the tapes. lol lol Look past at our parents and grandparents times, they lived a good life without all these stuff. But I think back to our grandparents and great greatparents times and wow. That was really good times. the smell of horse shit all over the street...image that in the summer? No AC and no refrigerators. Now if we know what the people need in the future and start planning it now, just think of the possibilities. People behaviors can change which in turn changes society. I know this is a lot, but your 40 years comparison has brought some interesting thoughts.
