Leap Day is added every 4 years as the earth takes 365.25 days to go around the sun. In order to keep the solstices and equinoxes and the calendar consistent. If not for Leap Day after one hundred years, the solstices and equinoxes would have migrated 25 days on the calendar. We can argue about the artificial nature of clocks and calendars and Daylight Savings Time, but the earth takes 365.25 days to orbit the sun.

Yeah, the math works. But time is relative. I for one don't know anybody who celebrates the solstices or the equinoxes any more. They're moving around wouldn't really affect me one way or the other if they did.
