Filling that space inside can be a problem can't it. I think it is worth recognising that part of it is because we need to be appreciated in order to evaluate ourselves - if we are appreciated by someone we care about then it reinforces our self esteem. But it can lead to falling into traps because the need to fill the space can be blinding - which is where worries about trust issues come in. When I worry that I might be feeling that way, I try to concentrate on things and people that I appreciate, and try not to actively look for someone who will appreciate me - I guess I cling to the hope that it will come along sometimes, and of course sometimes it does!
