I know I went in to get a triangle piercing and walked out with a double princess Diana. A lot depends on the anatomy of your body and not hitting that nerve bundle in the clit itself. I had had nipple rings put in a few years prior to, and the pain associated with getting both the piercing and the after care and healing were barely nothing compared to the nipple piercings.
