Most Dangerous City in the United States

In your opinion, what is the most dangerous city in the United States? (In other words, which city in the United States do you think we all should avoid for safety and security reasons?)
Detroit, Michigan
Baltimore, Maryland
Oakland, California
Miami, Florida
Birmingham, Alabama
Atlanta, Georgia
Stockton, California
Buffalo, New York
St. Louis, Missouri
other (please specify)

You missed two:

Flint, Michigan
Camden, New Jersey

I've been to Baltimore, Oakland, Stockton, Buffalo, and Atlanta. Stockton was a poor choice on my part- I had misjudged fuel stops and HAD to stop there for gas, but it was a Friday morning and I hit a major Costco. Atlanta, I never felt unsafe. Buffalo seemed fine, I even parked on a city street with no issues, though I didn't stray far from the Museum I'd gone to. Baltimore, I was downtown at the waterfront, and I honestly don't even remember where I parked! Seemed fine to me.

But Oakland? My company had us in Alameda for a week but they put us up in a hotel in Oakland. Which had guarded parking and told us to NOT walk out the doors. This was a nice hotel! Years later I stayed in a cheap motel in Richmond, and yeah I was pretty apprehensive.

Camden... nothing like seeing a city that looks like a warzone, or a post-apocalyptic movie. Burned out hulks of cars visible in every alley. ARMED guards at the parking lot I'd had to use. And i saw the stares of the pedestrians as I drove my lily white ass (with my out-of-State license plates) through the middle of downtown Camden. I remember that same feeling driving through Watts. I went from Camden to Philly... then New York City the next day. Anxiety level 10 those 3 days.

If you are planning to come to San Francisco Bay Area in California, United States, I absolutely want to tell everybody to avoid Oakland, as it is known for plenty of violent robberies, drug trafficking, and, most importantly, gang violence. No one in Oakland is safe there. (I can bypass Oakland while riding BART without a scratch, but not exiting any one of the stations within Oakland, unless I have important appointment which requires me to be in Oakland.)

Instead, try going to Fremont or Sunnyvale in the same state. These two places are pretty safe, plus there are plenty of police patrolling there. If you move to Fremont or Sunnyvale for a living, then safety is not a big issue.
