Whimsical Wednesday

1. Forget the "whimsical" part. I just needed a word that starts with "W" to put with Wednesday. Whew! Now that I've gotten that explanation out of the way...

2. I recently read "American Dirt" by Jeanine Cummins. It wasn't a happy book, but it made me re-think a lot of things. It's about a woman in Acapulco whose entire family (16 people) were murdered at a birthday party. She and her hid in the bathroom and then escaped Acapulco to come to the U.S. I was deeply touched by this book and will probably think about it for awhile.

3. Now I'm reading Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. The jury is still out on this one. It one a Pulitzer Prize, but I'm not yet sure it will be a Dr. Heifer prize winner.

4. Our dishwasher broke two weeks ago. It was quite hard hiding all my dishes so I wouldn't have to wash them. I put a few in the closet, a few upstairs on my desk, and sneaked a few in with my 's dishes so she would think they were hers. The new dishwasher arrived Saturday. It is pretty darned awesome.

5. Recently, I was put into FB jail. Someone reported me for "spreading false information about COVID-19." I wasn't spreading false information. I was sharing information that someone disagreed with. They said if I do it again my account will be permanently terminated. Oh no...whatever will I do then? *sarcasm*

6. I had a birthday last week. I told my that when they finally legalize marijuana in Texas that I want all my presents to be cannabis lemon drops because I intend to spend my older years toasted. I'm not a law-breaker, so I'm waiting until it's legal.

7. My 80-year-old mom got into a verbal altercation with her 84-year-old sister yesterday. Apparently, my aunt did all the annoying things that my mom always does, and it annoyed my mom. Imagine that.

8. My ex-husband passed away in October, and I miss him like crazy. He was the person I could anything, and now when I need someone to talk to he's not there. Well, technically he is still there...his ashes are in a box in the extra room, but I'm not inclined to speak to his ashes...at this time...

9. There seems to be a frozen fruit shortage at the stores. What the heck?

10. I can't think of anything for number 10, so I guess that's all folks!

1. Tomorrow is Valentine's . My ordered a nice edibles fruit arrangement. We're going to watch Hallmark movies and eat chocolate dipped fruit. What could be better than that?

2. Today I attended a webinar about attachment styles in relationships. I found out my attachment style is Avoidant-Fearful. I apparently keep closeness at arm's length and in small doses. Yep, that sounds like me. The speaker said it's all to be blamed on my . I'm good with that. I like blaming her for everything.

3. I was thinking about the Jonah and the Whale story. I've wondered if Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale (or other big fish) or if he was picked up by an alien submarine. I did a little research and found that it is possible to survive three or so days in the belly of a whale if you move past the initial part of the stomach, into the second section...or something like that. Could you imagine being in the stomach of a whale? Ohhh, the claustrophobia. And what if the whale swallowed a small shark whole and it tried to bite you, or worse, a scary eel...or both...What if you're constantly been thrown around as the whale swims and surfaces. I'd probably be blogging in my mind.

4. I just finished reading The Wives. That was something else. I didn't even see the ending coming. It was a psychological thriller that was exciting all the way through. I couldn't put it down.

5. If you haven't had the Mocha Madness smoothie from Tropical Smoothie, you should try it. It has coffee, cappuccino, chocolate, and non-fat yogurt. I substitute the turbinado for Splenda. It's the bomb-diggety!
It's Why-Day

1. Why are some people so mean on social media? There is a real person with real feelings behind the profile - at least most of the time.

2. My crockpot dinner is smelling amazing. It's sort of Tex-Mex chicken soup.

3. It's shocking how many jars of Herdez green salsa go through this house.

4. I've been cycling just under 9 miles per day lately. I feel like it has taken 20 years off my age.

5. Friday I finished reading Conviction and then read all of You're a Badass. Now I'm reading Design Thinking for Strategic Innovation and Conscious Business by Fred Kofman. The last one was actually an assigned book in a doctoral philosophy class a few years ago, but I just got around to reading it. Shhh...don't tell my professor.

6. My theme song should be Let It Go...because I don't... When someone hurts me I like to make them suffer. Fortunately, I don't get my feelings hurt easily or frequently, but when I do I want to be a real pain in the ass. I must say my would laugh at that. They think I'm hilariously harmless. Maybe I only WANT to be a pain in the ass. Maybe I'm really not. Who knows?

7. I saw an episode of Ancient Aliens the other night that scared me. It was about zombies. That is a scary concept to me.

8. I'm having a craving for a big piece of chocolate cake with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I won't have it, but it would be good.

9. Why doesn't sarcastic snarky-ness translate well in writing? I must get better at it. A lot of people on social media (yes, that again) seem to think I'm mean. My tells me that Oscar Wilde says sarcasm is the highest form of intelligence and that if people think I'm mean it's because they're not smart of enough to understand my snark.

10. I'm not feeling the love lately. I'm totally feeling sorry for myself. Self-pity is quite unattractive, and I don't even care right now.
Eight Hours Till a Three-Day Weekend!

1. Who is off Monday? I am! Yay!

2. Yesterday I watched a presentation on neuroplasticity Dr. Philippe Douyon. It was fascinating! Apparently, we can improve our brains significantly with exercise and eating nutritious food, He talked a lot about neurons and stuff. I'd get the book, but it may not be as interesting at the presentation.

3. Then I started the 1% Rule Tommy Baker. I liked it very much as well.

4. I had a lot of frustrating meetings today. Someone (not me) tried to cut some corners, and it has caused way more work and a lot more time. She's still trying to cut those corners, but it's not working for her. I disapprove.

5. I commented on a news article today, and some little turd called me "Granny." LOL!

6. I heard some gossip today. My first thought was to call my ex-husband and tell him so we could judge and say "I knew it!" The thought was followed that sinking feeling when I realized yet again that he's gone. It has been three months. I hope this goes away because I experience it frequently. When I hear a motorcycle I think it's him, or when my 's on the phone I think she's talking to him. We were divorced 18 years, but he was my family.

7. On a happier note...three day weekend. Yay!!!

1. It's 80 degrees here today. What the heck?

2. I'm reading Conviction by Denise Mina. It's pretty darned good so far. Right from the beginning, it includes murder, someone with a fake identity, lots of mystery and intrigue.

3. Did I say that I was reading The Reckless Oath We Made? I thought it was crap. I read to halfway through Chapter 13, and it never got any better so I gave it up. The book had lots of great reviews, but it wasn't for me.

4. Someone messaged me and asked if I'm as chunky as I appear to be in my profile picture. I guess I need a new picture because I've lost 30 pounds since I posted that one. So no...I'm not as chunky in person as the picture indicates. I don't think I've ever emailed someone before to ask them if they're fat.

5. These gloomy skies make me feel blue.
Saturday Ponderances

1. I planned all week stay up last night and be scared of the bad weather. I imagined myself alternating between cat naps on the couch and huddling in the closet amidst the jackets, shoes, and Christmas ornaments. It was a good, solid plan. Somehow, I fell asleep around 10-ish and totally missed the storm. Slept right through it. Upstairs in my bed, no less. There was a tornado not that far from us, but I was sleeping like a baby.

2. I got up early this morning and went to the gym. Didn't do a darned other thing the rest of the day.

3. You would think with all this modern technology it wouldn't be hard to find someone, but sometimes it is. When I was a , my parents had priorities that didn't include raising their . We had a live-in nanny/housekeeper that I was very close to. I've been trying to locate her for years and can't find her. She has a common-ish name. She could be in one of several cities in the U.S. or Mexico. I can't find her or any of her siblings either. It's disappointing. I don't even know if she's still alive. She would be about 75 years old. She greatly influenced my life.

4. My and his girlfriend are coming over for dinner tomorrow. He has developed a cheesy potato-y dish we're going to try. I'm happy to see him developing an interest in cooking. It's fun when we all get together in the kitchen.

Have a happy rest of your weekend!

We have lived in our house for years. The guy next door bought his house shortly before we did. He's currently about 35'ish years old. A of years ago, he moved of the house and rented it his sister and or roommates. We never had a problem with anyone. They are very quiet and stay themselves, and so do we.

About a week and a half ago, they moved out and a of 20-something-year-old guys moved in. Less than a week after they moved in, I just happened pass by the patio door and saw a "device" had been installed on our side of the fence, and it was pointed right at our living room window where we hang in the evenings. It looked like a light bulb with a camera in it. I walked over the fence check it and take a picture of it, and then I flipped it over the fence where it was hanging about halfway the ground.

got a bit riled up over this. She put on her mean - the that scares all of us - and marched her tiny little self over their house. She rang the doorbell times and waited. When the guy opened the door, she gave him the what-for. She told him to get it off the fence right now. When she was done, all he said was "okay." He immediately took it down.

Might I say he also named his wi-fi "FBI Surveillance Van," which is just juvenile. I guess he thought it was cool to do this in conjunction with putting his little device pointed at our window. I'm guessing he isn't too smart. He must have assumed we're non-techy old ladies. There's no way he could know I have a bachelors, masters, and doctorate in IT and can spot a spy cam from a mile away.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

1. Today feels like Monday...but I’m glad it’s not.

2. I’ve been watching Family Reunion on Netflix. It’s a funny show.

3. I started to de-Christmas the house today. I can tolerate Christmas stuff from the day after Thanksgiving the day after Christmas Day, but that’s it. I’m not of those people loves Christmas, I do love Thanksgiving because there’s turkey.

1. I'm applying for a university research opportunity. It would be for a year and would require a presentation at a conference and publication in a journal. I'd be working with other people. I have tell them why I should get this position. Can't they just see how awesome I am? Apparently not. *sigh*

2. I guess the gym will be full of people soon. I don't like when it's crowded, but it won't last long.

3. In addition walking a LOT, I've added kettlebell workouts and yoga.

4. gave a Rocketbook digital notebook and pens, so I can write down Year's resolutions and save them computer. I love it!

5. I need find a man with a awesome kitchen that I can come over and cook in...so please post your kitchen pictures . Just kidding. We have a nice kitchen, but there are a few things I'd add.

1. In spite of all that has happened this week, I had a wonderful Christmas.
2. We had a gingerbread-building contest that was lots of fun.
3. Today, we went to my 's house and met his girlfriend's family. There were all very nice. I had a great time.
4. The more you lose, the sweeter is what - and - remains.
5. I got a Storm Trooper shirt for Christmas. What does it say about me that my favorite Star Wars characters are Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers? Maybe I dwell on the dark side?
6. I saw a bunch of wild hogs yesterday on the side of the road. If I already said that yesterday then please disregard.
7. I cooked a ham today with an apricot glaze with pineapples, cloves, and cherries on top. It was my first time to cook like this. My mom used cook hers like this. It was good.
8. In the white elephant at my 's house, I got very large cans of ice cold beer and a bottle of apple sake. I don't drink alcohol anymore, but I didn't want be impolite. As I was leaving, my 's girlfriend discreetly asked me if I'd like donate it the party...which I did. I'm sure it made someone very happy.
9. My has chosen a good woman, and they are very compatible. We love her and she loves us. could ask for more than for their be blessed with love and happiness.
10. I'm glad Christmas is coming an end for this year. On the new year!

1. My has a huge pan of potatoes au gratin in the oven.
2. Today is my little parakeet's tenth birthday. He hasn't been himself ever since my ex-husband passed away. I wonder if he understands that he died. I think age is catching up with the little guy.
3. Every year, I watch Christmas movies from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Day. Tomorrow is the last one.

That's all I have for today.

1. I like working the week of Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Year. Everyone else is off, so I really couldn't do much even if I wanted . Then, I get take my seven weeks of vacation at another time. It's like having an extra weeks of vacation. Did I just admit being lazy?
2. When it comes being accepted, consistently showing up is everything. When I first got married, my mother-in-law hated just for being white. That's funny because she was half white, but she didn't like that half. She was mean for decades. I just kept showing up anyway. When I got divorced 25 later, I still kept showing up. I told everyone I got his family in the divorce. They all looked at like I smelled bad. That's okay. I continued show up at all the family events for the next twenty . It's funny now because they all just love like I'm their sister now. It's all about how much time you spend with someone. I have make sure that when I die someone shows up at my funeral, and I can't count on my own family for that, except for my .
3. In spite of the fact that my niece just passed, we're still going go ahead with our Christmas traditions. No one feels overly Christmasy, but we're trying keep a little normalcy going. We're going have a gingerbread house making contest. We'll have teams. I told my I won't be on her team because she has a bad attitude toward building gingerbread houses. She wants to bring super glue, but we told her she can't. If I see her fingers stuck to her jeans pocket I'll know she tried to sneak some in and it leaked in her pocket.
4. 2019 stole my joy.
5. Maybe I've said this before...but don't ever date someone who belongs to 50 groups with titles that all imply a dozen different personality disorders. A guy I dated married someone who fits this description. I saw a picture of him and his lovely bride of a couple of . He's looking completely freaked out these days. It's his third wife. You'd think he would have learned by now.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa everybody!

1. Yesterday, my , -in-law, and I took a cookie baking/decorating class. It was pretty cool. We sent all the cookies home with the -in-law since she's hosting Christmas this year. We had fun, even if we did have get up at the butt crack of dawn get there on time.
2. I'm still doing StepBet. Last night at about 8 o'clock I had only done 2800 steps and needed do nearly ,000 or lose my $170.00. I got up and did all those steps and then went bed.
3. I got a at 7:00 am that they were doing breakfast for my late ex-husband's dad at 9:00. Short notice, considering it would take 45 minutes drive there. I declined, but my went.
4. When I came downstairs my said, "Awww, you slept hard last night." I guess I looked rough.
5. I've been having this deep thought. There have been several people in my family who died in their 30s and 40s. The one thing they had in common was they were larger than life. They lived life the fullest. Maybe we only get so much fun and they used theirs up too fast. LOL!
6. I have a lot of deep thoughts. I once dated someone who told me I think too much. He obviously didn't think enough...which is sad because he was a high school teacher.
7. I wonder how many it will take before malls are a thing of the past. I know a lot of people still shop at malls, but the real need do so is rapidly dwindling. I did all my Christmas shopping online this year. I even get my groceries delivered. I love looking things up online and reading the reviews. I guess if I wanted something today I'd go and pick it up, but I'm a very patient person. The last time I bought a new cell phone they delivered it to my house and set it up for me. Recently, I bought a new Apple watch online, and they delivered it to my house within hours.
8. There was a lady at the cookie class yesterday who had serious mommy issues. I recognized this right away because I have mommy issues too. LOL! This lady kept making wisecracks about how her mom makes huge batches of cookie dough and keeps it in the freezer. Then, when people come over she whips it out and bakes fresh cookies. She said her mom just does this to show off. I could relate to this lady, but at the same time I was put off by her constant negativity at an event that was supposed to be fun.
9. I'm ready for 2020 to roll around. New feel like new opportunities do things differently.
. 2019 softened my heart a lot. It used be very hard.
