The Games.....

No, not those games, but the Olympic Games......

This from The Guardian.....

New Zealand Distance runner Nikki Hamblin and US runner Abbey D’Agostino were four laps from the end of the 5000m in Rio when they collided.

As Hamblin lay in the fetal position on the track D’Agostino jumped up quickly and pulled the New Zealander to her feet.

Moments after the two athletes had started running again, D’Agostino began faltering, her right leg injured as a result of the fall.

In severe pain, D’Agostino fell again to the ground, crouching on all fours on the Olympic track, her face showing she was in pain.

Hamblin stopped running and turned to D’Agostino, reaching for her with two open arms – the race and Olympic glory, forgotten.

There is a part of me that dislikes competition....so often it brings out some really poor Human traits.....although, there are those who compete, who thrive for that challenge, and yet, somehow keep a level of respect and admiration for those they go up against......and at times, that whole "Winners and Losers" aspect just goes away........

I don't follow The Games like I used to, but it meant a lot to me as I was growing up......and moments like these bring it all back to me, and i am reminded of how important The Games are to us as Human Beings.......I really should pay more attention.......

I think that part of the problem with the Olympics, in the US at least) is that NBC focuses on the marquis sports where competitors get a lot of glory and $$$ (did you know Michael Phelps is worth $50million? Neither did .

When you step away from those sports to the ones where people compete for the sheer love of it, you find so much more heart and humanity. If you can find them.

just saw this on my face place: Jack Sock showed what good sportsmanship is all about....Olympic.tennis match...his opponent served, the guy calling the shots said it was out....Sock said to his opponent 'no, it was in...challenge it'. His opponent couldn't believe it but eventually agreed to challenge it...after viewing the tape, it was declared in bounds and there was thunderous applause from the crowds. Sock lost the match but won our hearts, is what the post said.
I agree.

This is 2016.The gaymes are acceptable.
They say to this day that the 1936 Olympics in Germany
set the standard that every host city today tries to
immolate.I'm sorry, that's emulate!

Using more than all the road!

I remember running a 10 K once while in my 20's and there was an older man in his 50's, overweight, sweating up a storm, really huffing and puffing. I was afraid that he would have a heart attack. My friend had finished and had come back to find me in the crowd. I pointed at him and she ran with him back to the finish line. She made sure he went to the medical tent afterward, too.
That made me glad to be a runner at the time...
