Why do poeple message you when your profile clearly shows you aren't what they want

I get quite a few emails from people, men and couples, who seem very nice and sincere but when I read their profiles they are clearly not looking for the same thing I am or our compatability (distance, body type, age) don't match. Why would they do that? It leaves me in a bit of a spot as I have to decide to write back or not.

*sigh*...frustrating.

Up until this point I've e-mailed most back and they have been quite nice (except for one who was a bit of an ass)

How do others handle this I wonder.
