Why do people think choking is a turn on?

Its sexy when the person your talking to is turned on however sometimes they can go a little too far.  Not trying to come off as a prude but there are other forms of submission or rough play, if that turns on your partner that do not restrict breathing or blood flow to the brain that can be exciting, so why take that kind of risk?
