SSC Factor

Bad things happen in the Big Wide World, but here in Dreamerland we carry on as usual, hoping the Big Wide World won't bother to notice.

I find I am always curious about the Somewhat Strange Coincidence. Of course simple coincidences happen all the time, and sometimes, what seems like a coincidence can really be evidence of something truly weird and wonderful happening. Or it can just be that the real cause is hidden.

"Cute" is a word I really used to dislike. I think it may be because in British English it carries connotations either of things like sweet little kittens, or a notion of the kind cleverness which is not altogether well meaning - a sort of sneaky selfishness.

But an American woman of whom I was, (and still am) extremely fond, used to tell me I was "too cute," meaning it in an affectionate, sexy way, and after a while I grew to enjoy that sense of the word. So last week, driving down the motorway, as I was passed by a very pretty girl in a little hot hatchback, I thought to myself, or possibly even said out loud, "wow, she's cute."

Then as she went past, I saw her number plate ???2CWT.

That made me smile.

hmm... just had an encounter with 'cute' earlier this week, and i didn't like it. i normally use it for my dog. and other cute animals. and adorable babies. or some innocent thing that a little kid does or says.

i've never used cute on a person older than 4 yrs old. i'm not sure why. And i honestly don't like it if it's used on me, because i feel like i've just been brushed aside as entertaining and adorable, but totally irrelevant.

this past week, i was on a conference call, hosted by a husband and wife. It was one of those free calls in which they try to sell something, but give you a few good ideas while they're at it. At any rate, those on the call, could communicate with each other and the hosts via chat. And the lady, was constantly saying: "oh, you guys are so cute!" or she laughed and said directly to the commentor: "Helen, that is so cute.".. Needless to say, i was quite annoyed. and decided not to buy their product just because she used cute too many times in an hour.

Note to self. V is not cute, she is exotic and mysterious, like Susan Sarandon and Rainbowsox "E."

totally agreed, you can't buy from people like that, that's just smarmy and wholly unprofessional, even if you liked the word.

mind you, you don't sound like an easy sell, lol. I kind of like that.

"Cute" always me of the line from Bull Durham when Susan Sarandon says something along the lines of, "Cute? Cute? Baby ducks are cute, I want to be exotic and mysterious". Which is funny, because without a doubt, H' is unbelievable cute (in every sense of the word), and i like to try and pretend to be exotic and mysterious, but usually come off as a total dumbass!

Although, there s no doubt in my mind, that shoes are characterized as either "cute", or "other", so I guess we have a closet filled with "cute"!!!!

    Love,
    -E' and -H'
H may be a baby duck, but I bet she is exotic and mysterious too.

lol exotic and mysterious sounds a whole lot better than cute!

I do like to buy stuff, especially when they come with a money back guarantee, because i like to see if they're telling the truth, or if they're bluffing. I've come to tell the difference between an honest sales pitch and a fake one (sometimes) lol i certainly HAVE become more jaded over the years, and i approach all claims with a 'prove it to me' attitude, which i think, isn't so bad. I can also go at something with a 'disprove it to me' attitude, so i'm not really sure where i stand. lol

the thing that has created my distrust is my realization that people are generally selfish, regardless of how altruistic they may sound. Nobody does anything for free, there HAS to be something in it for them. I like to find out what that is, before i can believe them or not.

So, this 'cute' lady was trying to sell a method of getting yourself organized, etc etc. And amongst the books that she had used to inspire herself, where two that i had already read. So, my thoughts were - why should i pay her for reviewing books i can find for free in the library? and besides, the things that she found useful in those books, may not necessarily be the same things that I find to be useful. Anybody can regurgitate work that others have done... if you want to sell me something, it has to be purely yours. unless, of course, it's herbal medicines, etc... for that, you'll need centuries worth of proof of success. lol
