What do you think of AdultFriendFinder's new policies towards non-gold members of only allowing gold members to be able to read emails nor respond to emails

I am totally against it, its BS really. I have several standard members that I will no longer be able to contact other than the IM and which is another absolute failure for this site. I have been a member on here off and on for several years. My days are becoming more increasingly numbered on this site.

The problem. or changes, doesn't effect just standard members but paid members also. I have a lot of friends that are standard, none of them are like that because they can't afford it, but simply for principle.
I guess a lot of us will move over to POF, which isn't any better than Craiglist

Now here's an interesting thought: the obvious work around to this is the blogs. You can always post to someone's blog that you're interested, and blog owners can set up posts that have 'private' responses... Many bloggers already have these (though usually for different reasons).... So what happens if those lovely people at AdultFriendFinder start to charge for blogs, or only allow paying members to read/respond to the posts.... THAT will kill this site!

Here's a way to voice your opinion effectively courtesy of Wordsmith6900 Reposting for wordsmith6900.

Do You Want To EFFECTIVELY Complain About The Standard Members Losing Their Email Privileges????

.

DISCLAIMER: This Blog post is in no way an attempt at incitement. The information supplied here is correct, factual, and available to anyone accessing this web site.

I've been a member of this site since May of 2003.

I've been writing a Blog here since February 28, 2005, although I was reading and commenting on other member's Blogs for at least 6 months before then.

Over the entire time I've been here, I've seen many changes ... some for the better, some not so good ... but, a few of them, that have been so outrageous and upsetting by their nature, caused a majority of the members here on the Blogs to rise up in a united voice of protest and firmly say, "NO FUCKING WAY ARE WE GOING TO STAND FOR THIS!!!"

... And guess what? The Powers-That-Be reversed those "changes" back to the way things were.

How did the Blogging Community do it, you may be asking ... especially if you've only been here for 2 years or less?

Did we write Blogs about it? Yes.
Did we call the Customer Service telephone number? Yes.

--- BUT ---

Those things were effective before December 2007 when the site was sold because Andrew actually read and communicated with us through his own Blog, the email on his profile, and occasionally he would actually talk to people on the CS line!

During the years that the 'Evil Empire' was in control of making the site worse, there was actually a paid employee out in Sunnyvale to directly interact with the Blogging Community. First it was Ryan, and when he left, Aryana took over.

They were both as helpful as they could be ... but neither of them had a position of 'horsepower', or should I say they did not have the authority to make decisions about complaints. They could only 'pass them up the ladder'.

Several 'changes' that were 'attempted' back then were met with floods of Blog posts and emails to Ryan or Aryana, as well as telephone calls to Customer Service.

Again, the sheer volume of those was enough to get the 'Evil Empire's' top brass to issue orders of 'policy changes' back to what they were.

At the very end of December, 2013, when Andrew re-acquired ownership and control of the sites, he was once again posting on his Blog and there was a period of about 6 months after that when he would still interact with the Blogging Community ... but even through that 6 month period of time, his posts became fewer, as did his responses to comments.

His final few Blog posts have since been deleted, especially the one about one of the main servers that contained all of the member's profile pictures failing and his 'premature' assurance to everyone that all of them would be restored ... 9 days before MOST of them were! All that got him were several THOUSAND additional angry and/or vulgar language-laced comments!

Which brings us to the present day's 'site policy change' ... or is it 'brain-fart'?

Many from the Blogging Community have already written Blog posts in the 24+ hours since it was 'un-announced' and found to be in effect ... and I'm certain from the content of those posts that many have called the Customer Service telephone number to complain, as well.

We'll have to wait awhile to see what the level of activity may be on the Site Support Blog, as their reduced presence has now become a matter of routine.

--- BUT ---

So ... how does one go about complaining 'effectively' in the present about something that the majority of stakeholders involved agree is 'dumber-than-dog-shit', and is equally intolerable for both Standard and Premium members?

At the bottom left of every page on every site is the "Corporate" link ... *left click* on it.

On the top of the first page that comes up, *left click* on "About Us", and then on the left side of that brief history, *left click* on "Senior Management".

There is no one higher in authority than Andrew Conru, Ph.D., Chairman and Founder, and Jonathan Buckheit, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer.

Going back to the left of their pictures and bios, *left click* on "Contact Us".

Both a toll-free and direct main telephone number are listed there to bypass the 'third-world' Customer Service operators and put you right in touch with the Corporate switchboard, on-site in Campbell, California.

Ask to be connected to either of them, by name.

Chance are you'll be connected to one of their Secretaries, for screening and scheduling purposes.

If you are unable to get past them, ask to be connected to their voice-mail or leave a message with the Secretary.

Exploring the other sections of the "Corporate" link will provide the basic email address to both of them that will need to be prefaced by their first initial and last name with no characters or spaces between them, should anyone wish to do so.

As always, with everything I post on my Blog, anyone can 'spread the word' of what should be a highly 'effective' form of a Customer Complaint

And, one does not even need to be a registered member of these sites to access the "Corporate" link information. It is a Federal requirement for all web sites that are operationally accessible in the United States of America to provide that informational link.

As a standard member, I have no say in what the site does or doesn't allow. I think that if a gold member wants to start a conversation with a standard member, the conversation should be allowed. After all a gold member has paid for that privilege. I did like the idea of being able to use my points to view profiles and send messages but if AdultFriendFinder decided that non paying members can't do that, so be it. The ones that should be pissed are the paying members that can't gain full access to the whole site.

As a standard member, I could live with not being able to read profiles or look at others pics and videos. I still went ahead and shared mine, which made me new friends and had conversations and friendships through the Message Center. With the top fan option, I was also able to start conversations with other standard members. Now that this is no longer an option, except if I upgrade, I consider this being blackmailed into paying. Also ticked me off that no notice of this change was given, so people could respond before it went into effect and give the company a chance to change their mind.

I was a gold member for five years before I went to being a standard member. I thought the points game was interesting now I don't get points for logging in each day so I don't make a point of doing so. Little by little AdultFriendFinder is taking access away so it shouldn't be long before the membership will only include fake members and gold members. Then the gold members will disappear too.

We agree with most of the comments left here. It seems as a Gold Member we have just got our benefits taken away as well. I must say, I do understand this is about profit and maybe to get rid of the bot situation. But possibly there is other answers that could be discussed. The main reason we are gold is email and fully look at profiles, now at least 60% of our email communication has been killed. Had they warned us to make sure to get contacts that would have been appreciated. So as a gold member, they took something away from us, as well as they did standard members. Since profits drive everything, maybe a tear system would have been best. For example; standard would go back to the way it was, Bronze you could send email but not look at full website, Silver, gold, etc. You get the point. I do hope they read this. If they do, I think possibly this will end up hurting them. Unless this stunt is a revenue grab then drop it again, then shame on them.

Very bad decision on the part of AdultFriendFinder, I'm not a gold member at the moment, but now I can't even read older e-mails that I paid for! I can e-mail other members with points that I have built up, but even if I do, I can't read the response, seriously??
This is a direct copy/paste from the AdultFriendFinder page:

Gold Members...
Get more action
Can contact any members
Have full access to all profiles, photos and videos

Oh really? one would believe that being able to "Contact" ANY member would include the ability to be contacted back... kind of deceptive.

Congrats to AdultFriendFinder!! They have succeeded in creating a caste system by limiting standard members IM chat invites to (5) as well as making the E-mail limited. Just a brilliant move!! In one decisive move they have significantly reduced the chances of the paying Gold Members to “Hookup”. Makes sense to limit the standards to the point there can be no meaningful communication with the Gold Members. Nice pitch to sell that lowly Standard Member a “Gold Membership”. The “Icebreaker” readable E-mail is so limited that there is not much room to get any meaningful communication going with the other party before it goes blurred. So now that your “Icebreaker” E-mails are limited, what is one to do? Two options. “Oversell yourself and come off entirely too strong or like a desperate psycho?” or “Buy Gold”. Most people tend to want to chat someone up before meeting or anything of the kind. One would think this would apply to Standard and Gold Member alike. I would think Gold Members would be infuriated at this reduction in their chances to meet a match.

Once was a time when there were three memberships, Gold, Silver and Standard. Selling point was “Get Gold” get “unlimited play”. Silver? Not so much. Little more than half the cost of Gold as I remember. Standard? You could reply to E-mail and invite to chat up to (20) times. There is no median now. Get Gold or else!!!

The chat invite is just fabulous by the way. Now limited to (5) chat invites, the good ole Standard Member gets (5) chances to invite that random AdultFriendFinder mobile app that “said recipient” forgot to log out of. Better yet “said recipient” loses signal, restarts their phone or the app crashes. Responsibility? Standard Member with (5) count them (5) chat invites tossed in the wind. I would say severely limited IM chat for standards really may inconvenience the Gold Members and restrict their chances for a suitable match. Once again the paying Gold Members should be infuriated.

If one is a current Gold Member it may appear that you are in the proverbial “catbird seat” of the site. Merely until the re-inventors of the wheel discover “Platinum” or another equivalent as the higher standard.

I have been a member on this site for some time and often thought but declined paying for membership because of many issues. Over the years the site has had many a problem from slow servers, lost pictures, deleted and negatively enhanced profiles from hacks, bots and prostitute advertising. Makes me want to just run out and pony up one of my credit cards. Has to be great identity security right? Not to mention the runaround of cancelling the Gold Membership if the person is not satisfied with the product. We have all seen different members lament over not being able to cancel the membership from time to time. To be fair some of the people that opted for the “Gold Membership” need that money for other things in their life. It should not be a hassle to get their memberships cancelled ever.

The guarantee of “more action”? How so? Can AdultFriendFinder guarantee that if I pay there will be more suitable candidates? I think not. Rather like AdultFriendFinder is reducing the “gene pool” of the site significantly. Definitely a great way to push away the Gold Members by leaving them with limited choices of whom to correspond with. Excellent marketing plan!!! Not!!!

AdultFriendFinder has fallen into the wake of a BEAN COUNTER. This individual came from another site about a year and half ago. The Instant Messenger Shamble was his first mistake.

AdultFriendFinder has lost site of the things that made it big and successful. I no longer recommended AdultFriendFinder to people. I feel AdultFriendFinder has deprived ALL OF US paying members, by stopping the interactions with nonpaying members email and other services too. I also have to say they have started to use some strange advertising too. And lastly be very careful what you pay for here and keep the receipts. They don't do as what's advertise.

Yes AdultFriendFinder has defiantly taken a turn down the MONEY GRUBBING trail. This may be my last year here, if they don't fix it.

Wow this is the #1 sign of a scam site that normally makes me head for the hills (on every other site that does this).

If free members can't even read messages that paying members have sent,
hoping they change this back soon.

I've been free, silver and gold for over 10 years on this site, until they took away silver that is. I agree that you can use the chat rooms and IMC to start a conversation still, which is nice, bu if you try to give out personal/contact info in IMC you can be banned, it's probably the same thing in the chat rooms.

Other than a little blog loophole it looks like the only legit option is to be a paying member and only contact other paying members.

I received an icebreaker email from a GOLD member today and of course can't read it. That GOLD member just paid and is unable to contact anyone who is not GOLD. Well done AdultFriendFinder - piss off the paying members as I'm certain that will increase your paying customer base and get rid of all those non-paying customers who at the end of the day are the majority of your user base and perhaps why they became GOLD members to begin with.

Hmmm, Let's think this through shall we? Fewer standard members translates to less profiles to see which leads to less GOLD members because the majority of customers took their non-paying profiles (pics, blogs, chatroom conversations) i.e. free added AdultFriendFinder content with them. As such, AdultFriendFinder gets less free value added content which in turn will lead to fewer customers overall. I wonder what genius thought this would be a good thing for the company and how they convinced the CEO it was a good idea.

I'm starting to see a window of opportunity and am thinking I'll start my own site and all those former AdultFriendFinder members will receive special considerations.

Here's hoping your basket is empty Basket Theory and your algebra skills are improving Algebra is Like Sex

I suppose I can't blame them for wanting to make money by providing us with their services, and if everything was free to standards then they wouldn't make any. Having said that, it doesn't affect me that much as I have been here for years mainly just for blogging, but I have made some great friends, and a couple of real lovers which would never have happened if we had not been able to read emails like we used to. So it a shame, but I can't say I think they are really being in any way unfair, stupid or vindictive.

I have a real time friend locally here who also is a member but standard. Out of curiousity we decided to compare. I sent her a message and she showed what it looks like on her end. Blurred. It stated if she wants to read it she must upgrade. So as a paying member, I was stunned. This is an old thread and it's now July 4, 2016. Obviously after reading the thread, it has gotten worse.
