On Today's Episode of 'To Tell the Truth'....

Bobby Sue Coworker calls Secret_Lade 2 minutes before she is headed out the door to tell her that she has "the virus".

So, Bobby Sue claimed on Monday that she had the symptoms to COVID-19 when she was doing the intake screen.

Not the first time this has happened as employees have discovered it's a mandatory 3 days off without any hits against your attendance.

Beautiful day outside?? My throat is feeling a little sore...

Hung over from the night before?? I think my headache is COVID related...

Looking for a mini vacation?? I've got a fever... That's seven days off!

The requirement, though, is to get tested for the virus. In order to come back, you must be virus free. Not too terribly difficult, we're essential workers, we can walk in and state we have a failed health screen and they will test us right away.

When Bobby Sue started by saying she had the virus, I was thinking.... Oh shit.

Here it comes.

Then she continued....

"My test came back negative but my doctor says I have it."

"If your test is negative, what did the doctor see that would cause him to think otherwise?"

"I didn't actually see the doctor, I did the online Blue Cross visit. He is certain I have the virus thought."

Um.... Yah....

"What kind of documentation did he give you? Do you have anything stating you're infected, I'll need to turn this in right away."

"I just have a note putting me off for two weeks."

"Does it state anything about being infected?"

"No. Just to quarantine for two weeks for symptoms."

Ok, so.... Let me get this straight. You have a NEGATIVE result on your swab test. Your doctor is an online Blue Cross doctor who didn't actually see you. Your doctor note is telling you to quarantine for symptoms.

But, you have the virus.

Ok, I can 100% believe that you believe you have it, so I can go with it.

"Ok. I'm going to need you to take a picture of your note and email it to me so I can forward it on."

"I can just drop it off tomorrow when I pick up my prescriptions."

"Bobby Sue! You're telling me you have COVID-19 and your doctor is telling you to quarantine, you can't be around other people. That's the purpose of the quarantine. Anyone and everyone you come into contact with has the potential to get infected."

Momentary silence....

"How will I get my prescriptions?"

Do I hear tears?

"I don't want my husband to be out in public, he's at risk."

Am I REALLY hearing this??

"Bobby Sue, I'm not going to tell you what to do, you will need to make that call for yourself. But, if you truly are infected, you cannot come here to drop off that note. You're doctor wants you to quarantine, that means, no contact with anyone."

Now... Do you think Bobby Sue is.... Telling the Truth?

What other prescription drugs is she taking? Does she have an underlying health condition that also puts her at risk as well as her husband?
    Tricky situation.
I'm sure one of the prescriptions is for her chronic yeast infection. Egads!! Got to hear about that at lunch one day.

The tests are notoriously unreliable. Some people who display all the symptoms show several false negatives before finally showing up as positive. Similarly, false negatives are common place too and have been known to lead to spikes in the infection rate.

That said, if the girl has access to online diagnoses, she has the ability to email you the test result. If her husband has to be shielded and she has it, well, he'll have it too, already. If she has to quarantine, the advice would have been to stay at home, your meds will be delivered. Too many inconsistencies in her story, no wonder you're questioning her honesty.

Maybe you should send her some Chlorox and tell her to wash her mouth out.......
This isn't her first crack at this. She *just* got back from ANOTHER leave of absence. She's working the system.

She needs 14 days in the cooler... One for each day she's supposed to quarantine.

There are definitely some employees where I work who have figured out how to work the system. She is not one of them.... LOL Here's another interesting twist... Her husband is supposedly an EMT also. Wouldn't that make him unable to be a first responder if he's been exposed?

My thoughts exactly. I had to hold myself back from saying 'You've probably already infected him anyway, so, you're right! He shouldn't be in public infecting anyone either!'

We had a girl at work, felt sickly, got the test and some dweeb in HR told her she could come back to work even theough the resut has not come back yet. She came back, dumb ass management allowed it. She was positive. Infected 2 more people. Ergo, stupid and dumb has no boundaries.
Thankfully they've been smart enough where I work to keep everyone off until the results come back negative. Knock on wood, nobody where I work has been diagnosed with it, even with the myriad of people who claim to have 'symptoms'.

Most of the visits up here right now have been online or skype. There is no way something like that can be diagnosed online.

What medications are they giving her? There's not really anything that's effective for the virus and most of the drugs they've mentioned in any news reports have proven to not be effective. Also, if that test came back negative but the doctor thinks she has it, she should be re-tested.
    I vote for "she's lying".
Valid point! She should be retested. I didn't ask about the meds as I was more concerned about her being in public, specifically where we work,
Even though she was supposed to be at home quarantining.

That's the thing... All she has to say is she wants to take an unpaid loa and it would be granted because of the pandemic.

One thing I thought about after my initial comment. If she were given a note from an online doc, wouldn't that note have been e-mailed to her? Wouldn't she be able to simply forward you the e-mail?

And isn't there any kind of contact tracing that would have been initiated? Public Health would have been in contact with you or someone in your office to find out how many people she may have been in contact with and asked to have them go get tested.

Her story doesn't pass the sniff test.
Oh, you're right! She could have just forwarded the email.... I know she didnt. I didn't look at her note, I was on unauthorized ot by the end of the call, but it was just a picture attachment. And, yes, the health department would have been all over us. We are a large establishment.

I think Bobby Sue is just trying to get a paid leave of absence by stating she has the virus. Anyone who was truly infected would:

A. Have a positive test result.
B. Not be going into public to GIVE it to other people!
C. Be more concerned about giving their virus to their husband herself as opposed to sending him in public to get a prescription where he may or may not come into contact with someone infected.

And, those are just my thoughts...
