The Turkey Trot

There is a section of my morning commute that I have recently started calling The Turkey Trot.

Why??

Let me tell you!

Every morning this week I've gotten to a certain stretch of the drive and found a large group of wild turkeys just 'hanging out' in the middle of the road.

Literally.

Some seated and resting, some milling about pecking at shit on the edge of the pavement, some of them staring me down and shooting me the evil eye as I roll up on their gang, impatiently revving my engine and flashing my own gang signs.

I'm still waiting for them challenge....

So far nothing.

Until that day, I guess I'll continue to just beep my horn, slowly roll forward, and hope for the best!

Happy Tuesday!

It's like the Government giving taxes payer money to the non working.
Yes a free hand out is a very bad start to thing to come. Once you feed one they tell a friend and then they tell a friend. next thing you know your into 50 lbs of corn per week. then the deer come and it's 100lbs per week. It well never stop. I've seen a chicken and a wild turkey at the front door of a home one day. looking in waiting, I bet they knocked or learned to ring the doorbell for a free meal. Lolololol

Remember they were there first McLade.......give yersel' more time for the commute. And maybe carry a poke of bird feed to entice them off of the road?
Very true, they were there first. I am going to give the bird food thing a try, I think it might work.

Aside from the Turkey Trot, I haven't had any issues. I do see deer on the side of the road most mornings, but they are usually far back. I'm more worried about the deer than I am the turkeys.

We have similar issues with Canada Geese in our area.

For the next month or so, you should eyeball them carefully and locate a nice plump aggressive turkey. Somewhere around the second week of November, run it down with your car & throw it into the trunk. Thanksgiving dinner is taken care of!!!!
Then I'd have to clean it.... Ack!

my brother in-laws was driving home from our home on a busy road way 13 turkeys blocked the road way he came up to them stopped they surrounded him and started to peck at his truck he just drove slowly away.
friend and i was bow hunting at lunch we drove past a home next to where we hunted he pulled in to ask an old woman if we could help her with anything to hunt her property she said yes. could we shoot 5 turkeys she feeds her chickens and the turkey came in and eat all the corn and feed. we said we cant its not turkey season then the turkeys came around the corner of the home . it walked right up to my friend and peck him on his knee broke skin though his hunting clothes. he said lady we will be back to take care of your troubles.
I have a friend at work who fed a few when he first moved into his house.... It's two years later and they've multiplied into a menace of society. The minute they see the back door open they come running from every direction. LOL

Buy some deer corn at the store and keep a small bag of it handy beside you when you drive. Then, when you have to slow down, put your window down and scatter some of it at the side of the road so they will move.
Soon they will be trained to not only move for the free food, they will be nice and plump for your dinner next month.
I'm actually considering giving that a try. Thank you!
