As anyone who has been a follower of my blog knows, I used to frequent chatrooms quite a bit, as well as carry on one on one chats here and elsewhere. There were times I'd be switching between chatrooms and have 3 more IM windows opens. I spent an inordinate amount of time socializing online..to the point of it being somewhat obsessive. I must note, that my friendships weren't strictly online, most were people I also saw in person. They were friends, sexual acquaintences and lovers.

That is no longer something I do anymore and lately have been feeling sentimental about the closeness I had to so many. We shared details of our lives, family, sex, likes, dislikes, romantic notions, a lot of humor...so much fun innuendo and sexual banter. Oh, and we also sexted and had cybersex. Communicating online was a great way to have deep, thoughtful discussions. I have no trouble opening up to others in person, but online for others was a way for them to say things they couldn't otherwise.

Many, like me, moved on and seldom chat like that anymore. I've lost contact with most and often wonder what became of them.

Lately, I've been checking out who is chatting, wondering if I should jump in, and since so few names are familiar or they are people I never felt very friendly with I stop myself. I think about how I used to be able to join in a room of strangers and have a good time. Makes me ponder, is this something I can every enjoy again? I'm thinking it is not, but I sure had fun for a while and the encounters with the people I met sure gave me experiences I am grateful I had.

Well, tres, I do think that the chatrooms have dramatically changed in nature over the past decade. Just under 10 years ago, I frequented the chatrooms, where, for instance, the Chicagoland chatroom routinely had 50+ inhabitants at any time -- a mix of regulars and transients. It was there that I struck up a chat with a stranger. We were both curious about a mixer that was happening that evening, but leery of walking in alone. So, on a whim, I invited her to join me outside the tavern and walk in together. We ended up spending much of the mixer together. People thought we were a couple.

Sadly, I didn't get to leave with you (yes . . . you were my companion that evening); I left in an ambulance. Yet, only a few weeks later, after I underwent abdominal surgery, we met again and enjoyed a number of enjoyable dates together.

I'm pretty sure we'd never have met without the chatrooms being as they were. So, yes, I lament that they changed and became far less used as an initial meeting place.

You could always organize a chat room reunion.

Though curious about some, also feel I have moved on with my life and most have done the same. There are a few I became face book friends with so we can keep up with what goes on in our lves...at least superficially.

The two chat rooms I checked out had a very eerie similarity
to children banging pots and pans together for attention.
never since returned.

Using more than all the road!

I have tied a couple chat rooms, I would like to chat and sext with a some who do also. The time I have been in chat rooms, it seem like 3 or 4 are doing the chatting, I am not one to but in, so I don't say much. Bout the same as what redrock had to say.

I went to the local(ish) and the "mature" chat rooms a few times around the time I started blogging (January '15). The "mature" room was not mature or friendly and I never really said much. The local room was sort of clique like (may have been the distance since I'm far from Phx). So I was never impressed. Haven't been back since.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

sounds like you may have lost touch with some of your friends. If you saw them in person ,surely you should be able to get ahold of them. Hope the new year brings you new beginnings and opportunities.
